Steve Roussel, 52, of Unionville, beloved husband of Kathy (Gagnon) Roussel, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, as the result of an accident in Avon. Born in Bristol, son of the late Rino and Jackie Roussel, he was raised there graduating from Central High School in 1983. Steve served in the US Navy from 1983-1993 and then graduated from Lincoln Technical Culinary Institute and spent several years cooking at J Timothy's, 99, and ESPN before beginning to drive for Specialty Transportation, of Avon. Steve loved to be outdoors, from the beach to motorcycle trips with his wife Kathy. He also enjoyed scuba diving and was a member of the PADI Diving Association. Steve loved playing the guitar and was a big fan of Van Halen and Jimmy Hendrix music. A member of the Harley Hog Club, he also was a sports fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Michigan Wolverines, and the Vancouver Canucks. Besides his wife and companion for 17 years, Kathy, he leaves a son Adam Roussel and his wife Nicole of Bristol; a daughter Lauren Roussel of Terryville; a brother Tom Roussel of Bristol; grandchildren Gavin and Liam Roussel; nieces and nephews Austin, Samantha, Jessica, and Andrew. His family will receive friends Sunday, March 26, 2017, from 3-6 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A Funeral Service will be Monday, March 27, 2017, 10 am at Carmon's in Avon. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. We are so sorry for your loss. We didn't know Steve personally but reading about his life we wanted to take a moment to thank Steve for his service to our country and to our community, as a bus driver. He did selfless work and we wanted to honor him for that. Our prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

I had the honor of working with Steve for 5 years. A seemingly tough guy on the exterior to those who didn't know him, but such a genuine, kind, family-loving man who touched those who had the privilege to walk with him on this earth, I was blessed. My sympathies to his family.

May the Lord bless and comfort the Roussel and Specialty Transportation family during this time of grief. Please accept my sincere condolences on behalf of the men and women Inspectors at the CT DMV. I did not know Steve personally but from what I have heard, he was a good man and a dedicated school bus driver, a job that is sometimes never fully appreciated by those that have never done it. As the Commanding Officer of the student transportation unit, I know the effort it takes to ensure our students are transported safely on a daily basis and just know you loved one's (Steve) hard work did not go unnoticed. We will forever be grateful for his contribution to school transportation safety. My the Lord bless and keep him and may his soul forever rest in peace.

What can I say about someone I've come to love and respect as not only my brother, but true friend. My heart goes to Kathy and Steve's family.
God had a special need for you Steve, otherwise he wouldn't have take you from us so soon. You're very much missed already. This is a pain that won't go away for a long time.
You're in all of our hearts and prayers at Specialty. It was my true honor to have known you and work with you.
God speed my brother............

Our deepest condolences from our family to Kathy and all of Steve's family. Steve was a wonderful bus driver for our daugther, taking her to and from Thompson Brook School on bus 22 each day. My husband always commented on what a nice man Steve was when he put our daughter on the bus - he enjoyed seeing Steve each morning and engaging a few friendly words before heading off on the rest of the route. He will be missed.

One of the best !! Lifetime of memories !! My cousin that I always looked up to . He was up there standing with me for my confirmation . Spent many days with him and Eddie Hydock jamming in basements having a blast . Had plans to go ride our Harleys together this summer. Always having a laugh and fun to be around. Your gonna be greatly missed but never forgotten. Love you cousin. RIP and rock the heavens !
