Brother Rick, you've impacted so many lives and have been a faithful servant! A sweet memory of mine, is my then 4 year old son, hearing you preach (from the balcony) about making a choice to follow Jesus (which translated into, who gets to go to heaven)...looked up at me and tugged on my clothes and said "Mama, I want to go to heaven". Shocked, elated and unsure what to do, I took my little one to the front of the church for Rick's altar call. Rick squatted down, took time and talked to my son (like a little man) about Jesus. Years later, Jon would have that same conversation with my son at the age of 13 during a meal. Zach accepted Christ and was baptized by Jon on 4/18/2010. Lord continue to bless the Locklear family!

Rick Locklear was a good Godly man who was able to show me love. I grew up with the Locklear boys and Ricky was always there with a smiling face and a hug. Even when I would stray away from God and the Church and I would walk back in to the church after my strayiing. There was smiling Rick Locklear with a big hug and he would tell me he loved me and welcome me back. He knew that I was shy and somewhat diffferant then the other kids. And he did not ever snub his nose up at me. He loved me for who I was. Not what I was or what I could be. He loved me for being me. A human being that is imperfect that struggles through this imperfect life with its ups and downs. That is why I loved this man because he showed no favoritism no prejudice he loved you for being you and was always there for you at those church doors with that big Ricky Locklear smile and a great big hug when you walked in. I pray to God to comfort the Locklear family though these sorrowful times ahead. RIP Ricky Locklear this is not goodbye it's see you later my friend

Rick had a great impression on me when I first moved to Michigan. He showed great love and compassion on everyone he was around. Rick and Donna were loved by many and he will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Donna and the family and his friends. I have thought of Rick many times through the years and the Godly influence he left with myself which will remain with me until we meet again in heaven, in God's paradise and spend eternity together. God's love will take you through this time and so will the precious memories of Rick's Godly life. God bless!

Like so many people have said, it is difficult to find words to truly express in words the depth of the loss anyone who knew Rick must be feeling.
I met Rick in middle school and we'd often sit together on the bus. By the time high school came, we rode the early morning bus to Carlson. Rick always kept those early morning rides both interesting and fun! Never quiet!
Even during high school, Rick's calling became evident. He loved people and was genuine. He cared about decisions people made and the direction their young lives were going, without ever displaying judgment. I believe his caring, his life's example and his prayers greatly influenced many of us, including myself. I am so honored to have called him my friend.
Over the years, there has been a phrase that is popular, even printed on various bracelets, t-shirts, etc... "What Would Jesus Do"... Rick Locklear was a man who lived his life and fulfilled God's calling by living that example "WWJD".
Those of us who were blessed to have known Rick will terribly miss him. May we all find comfort in knowing heaven is rejoicing and one day, we will rejoice with him in eternity.
To Rick's wife, children and family, my earnest prayers and heartfelt condolences.

I have had the honor and privilege of knowing Rick since we were in grade school together. He and his entire family have been so wonderful to our family over the years. Rick and his Dad have visited our family when we were in hospitals, needed prayer, helped us get through tough times by using God's word, provided encouragement or a kind word and most of all they put God first in everything. Rick and his Dad conducted the wedding for Mary and I which I believe was their first to conduct together. Rick and I played softball and basketball together for countless years and went on trips to Fl together. Rick sent me a personal letter after my Dad died to offer encouragement along with his prayers. Rick was an amazing person who had every reason to be angry and bitter when he was diagnosed with cancer. But he never complained and never stopped telling others about God's goodness. What an encouragement and what a testimony he leaves us. I consider Rick a true friend and someone that I looked up to and admired because he was always there for myself and anyone who ever needed anything. And for that I am forever thankful to God for Rick, his family and our entire church family for what they have and always will mean to my family and I.

I remember Rick and the entire Locklear family when they first moved to Michigan and his father Lloyd was the new Pastor of Woodhaven FWB church. We grew up together although I'm a little older. Rick, Donna, and I all attended FWBBC together. The boys used to come over to play with my brother Paul after church. Rick inspired many for the Kingdom of God, and he is now in Jesus Everlasting loving arms, no pain, no suffering.....just peace. Well done good and faithful servant, husband, father, son, brother, grandpa and friend. Our family has always had high regard for the entire Locklear family and loved them all. Donna was my society sister in college and she was always admired by me as well. Donna, I'm sorry for your loss, nothing will ever fill that empty hole but time and Jesus. We love you and pray for your comfor and peace in your time of sorrow.

Thirty-six years ago this month the Drama tour bus was on the road for the college on West End Avenue, Nashville, and Rick Locklear was on-board. Thoughts of other team members come to my mind, but none with such clarity as these. Smiling, happy, energetic, kind, encouraging, positive, serious. So many qualities that would serve him well in ministry. Such a rich soul. Over the miles and years, my thoughts are with you in your loss, Donna and family.

Before I could even say any words or remember anything, I was brought into this church by my mom. I grew up listening to Brother Rick's sermons and I was always impressed by his fervor for God's word. I've been side-by-side with this family and I love you dearly. In many ways, brother Rick was like a father me to and to many of us, pointing in the direction of our Lord. He no doubt had a huge influence to the man I am today. I am happy that my wife and children were also blessed to hear him preach at least some. He will be dearly missed. We love him and your entire family and we pray for you. We mourn and we also rejoice for we know that time of separation is short. You are nothing less than family to us.

"So many precious memories of Rick and the entire Locklear family. Rick shared his heart and his love of Christ with me back in 1987. He led me to Christ and continued to uplift myself and my family in prayer. When my daughter came along, Rick and Donna were there with love and support. Rick has left a legacy here by doing what God called him to do. I know he is in a better place and we will all rejoice together in Heaven one day. Donna, kids, and family, my heart and prayers go out to you at the loss of such a God-fearing man. We love you and will be praying for you all."

I met Rick in the 6th grade at the old South Road Elementary School just down the street from his house. All through school Rick was admired by his classmates. His concern for others and his Christian faith guided him through young impressionable years. While being true to himself and his Lord, he never came off as condescending to those around him. Even a very young Rick was a humble and faithful servant. Long summer days, football in his front yard, sleepovers....precious memories. Melanie met Rick in Junior high school. He called her, Miss Melanie. She most especially appreciated Rick's light hearted humor and gentle spirit. Rick was Blessed with a wonderful family, and Melanie and I are mindful of your loss and the sadness being felt by all of you. We pray that our loving Father will provide for and console each of you. We thank God for the Blessing of Rick and his family and are forever thankful for the message of the Cross.

Brother Rick's passing is having an enormous impact on our lives, and we mourn his absence. Words cannot adequately express the loss we feel, and we can only imagine how deeply his family are hurting and grieving. Our deepest condolences go out to them, along with our prayers. We look forward to seeing him again one day in Glory, and hearing him sing The Old Rugged Cross one more time.

I have two entries in the front of my Biblequotes from the many sermons I've heard him preach. On May 18, 2008 he said, The water that threatens to go over our head is under His feet. And on October 9, 2016 he said, By the Cross the fire of God's wrath has been extinguished. I'm standing today where the wrath of God has already burned. In all of his messages he magnified Christ and His finished work in our lives.

I can almost hear the Lord speaking to him nowWell done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
