Mildred B. Cox, age 94, formerly of Greenwood, widow of the late Jiggs Johnson and the late Jerry Cox, passed away on Monday morning, April 17, 2017 in Okeechobee, FL. Mildred was born on December 17, 1922 in Shoals, IN to John Emmons and Gladys Tedrow Emmons. Survivors include her children, Joseph Earl Johnson of Rosanky, TX, Carol Jean Mayo of Mooresville, Judith Ann West of Clayton, Janice Marie Vogus of Mooresville, Linda Jane Walker of Clayton and Jennifer Elaine Green of Okeechobee, FL; one brother, John Emmons of Florida; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jiggs Johnson and husband, Jerry Cox, one brother Edward Emmons, two sisters, Anna Bergerman, and Lily Chamberlain, two grandchildren, Joseph Johnson and Joseph Walker. Funeral services will be held at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Services and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm . Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery. She taught me that no matter what the situation you can always be a tough bird and she was she meant so much to me and everyone who met her.Love you grandma cox.

Everytime I saw her face she always had a smile and nothing brought her down we loved her in life and now in death I think about her every day and the impact she made on all of us love you great grandma

We still miss Mildred's smiling face at the Tanti Quilters. The sewing machine she always used, we call it "Mildred's machine" as no one had ever used it since she left. We miss her very much and all the beautiful handwork she did. God Bless the family. Our sincerest sympathies to all.
