There are no words to express the deep sorrow we feel over the tragic loss of Matt. We are blessed to say that we knew and loved Matt since he was three years olad. Matt was an adorable and sweet child who grew up to be a very sweet honorable young man who lived his life with the highest of integrity always. Matt loved his entire family and especially his precious little son Alex. Matt's devotion and love for Alex had no bounds. Our hearts are broken for Alex, Sandy, David, Carrie and the entire family. Matt will always be remembered and forever loved by us all.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Dr. Lange as a graduate assistant. He was always very respectful and cordial whenever we crossed paths at Lewis University, and never hesitated to offer assistance to anyone who needed it. To his family, friends, and loved ones, you have my deepest condolences. Thank you for sharing him with us all.

Matt was the best. He was sweet, kind, caring, loving, generous, silly, hilarious. He was quick witted and his sense of humor was always at the forefront. He was a great teacher, even in high school and college, always helping me with my work, reteaching me (patiently, even) the material. His quiet strength is something I always remembered about him, he could help me stay calm in any situation. When I think of high school, it's him. When I think of college, he's the part that sticks in my brain the most. I have so many memories of him to choose from, so many happy and wonderful times. Band, hanging out, going for walks, watching movies, just driving around, or sitting listening to music and talking. What we did was always talk. He was my first true partner in crime, and bff. So many hugs and prayers for all of the Lange family, and all of his friends and colleagues.

I have Dr. Lange to thank for everything I know in the psychology field. I have only had him once as a teacher for theories of personality, but that is one of the base classes for psychology. Even now in my psych classes when we go over basic stuff, I already know it because Dr. Lange has taught it in a fabulous way that it has stuck with me. He was truly a genuine, positive, good guy. All students loved him, and he truly cared about his students. He always made class fun, interesting, & active. He loved teaching psychology classes and you can tell by the look on his face. I have never seen without a smile on his face. Dr. Lange was also my advisor and I have him to thank for guiding me this far. The psychology department & his students will truly miss him, but he has left such a positive impact on us all. I hope to live with such positivity and with a good attitude just like he had. Rest easy Dr. Lange & keeping your family in my mind always.

Dr. Lange was my professor for my Adulthood and Aging course at Lewis when I took it last spring as well as my advisor for my psychology major. He will surely be greatly missed. Dr. Lange was a kind, caring, passionate, funny, and intelligent man. His lectures were always engaging and interactive. He would always take the time to help out students when they were struggling and to guide them to their career path. He also shared his vast knowledge in his teachings. Dr. Lange was a truly gifted teacher who would express his passion for student learning. It is unfortunate that he will no longer be with us to share his devotion and enthusiasm for teaching with any future Lewis students but, his legacy will carry on. I will cherish all the lessons he has taught me and the advice he has given me to move forward in my career. My heart, thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Matthew's family.
May he rest in peace.

Dr. Lange was the one professor in the entire department that all students unanimously loved. His classes would fill up within minutes because of his popularity. He was a gifted teacher who expressed his passion for student learning and motivation. There was never a time where Dr. Lange didn't portray a vibrant smile across his face. His lectures were interactive and every student was always engaged. He will be greatly missed but his legacy and philosophy will carry on. His family will carry aspects of his personality in their hearts while his students will achieve what he wanted- the power of learning. My deepest condolences to Matthew's family. I pray and wish for them to receive the same amount of strength, love, and passion as Matthew was able to deliver to his students when they were struggling.

I didn't have Dr. Lange as a professor, but when I was at Lewis for undergrad (2012-2016) and in the psych program for two of those years, Dr. Lange was definitely a well known name! I never once heard a bad thing from any students who took him and while he was getting his doctorate he would come into some of my classes to collect data. During that time he'd talk to us about getting his doctorate and what it was like. He would even answer questions we had. He was an all around great man, and I had only talked with him a few times.

He will be dearly missed.

I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to have Dr. Lange for two classes. He was such a great professor! He made class so fun and made Psychology easy to understand. I considered minoring in Psych because of Dr. Lange.

I'm honestly so honored to have had him as a teacher. May he rest in peace.

I am so lucky to say that I have known Matt since I was 2 years old. Matt and I grew up together as nextdoor neighbors and best friends. I have the most wonderful childhood memories because I shared so many of them with Matt. Sandy, David, Carrie and Matt are like family, and my heart is broken to have to say goodbye to someone so special to me. Sandy, David and Carrie, I love you all and I am so sorry. Matt truly was the best...❤

Matt was always quick with a joke and brought smiles wherever he went. In fact, it is impossible for me to remember his face without also seeing his smile. He was much beloved by all the trombonists at West High, and I am heartbroken that his light has been stolen from his family and students.

Dr. Lange was the instructor for Adulthood and Aging at Lewis when I took it in a previous semester. From my experiences of having him as a professor, I can easily agree that he will be greatly missed by all of his current and former students, fellow staff, and the Lewis community.
Dr. Lange was an affable, caring, highly intelligent, passionate, witty, and patient man. Each of those priceless traits shone through in his lectures, focus on student achievement, and willingness to aid students in need. He shared his vast and invaluable knowledge without hubris. He truly deserved his recently earned doctorate, and it is a disappointment that he will no longer be able to share his enthusiasm for teaching, along with his talents as an instructor, with any future Lewis students.
My heart and condolences go out to his family, friends, and the Lewis community.
May he rest in peace.

Dr. Lange was one of my first professor's at Lewis. He was such a genuinely wonderful person and taught with the upmost enthusiasm. Dr. Lange made it his objective to make sure all his students developed a well-rounded and diverse education. He emphasized that just because we may not grow up the same way as others, does not mean we could not prevail or grow from our experiences. Nor should we ever be afraid to seek guidance if we are troubled by something. That is something I'll always remember him by. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and students during this time.

I was so saddened to hear of the untimely and tragic death of Matt. I watched him grow from a shy kindergartner to a confidant young man, and as a fellow trombonist in the West Aurora Band, Andy always spoke so highly of him. Sandy and Dave, I cannot comprehend the anguish you are enduring, but I hope that your happy memories, in time, will give you a small bit of comfort. On behalf of all the Roesners, our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

It is hard to believe that Matt is gone. I worked with Matt at Lewis University and we often talked about education and teaching. He was a talented and well-regarded educator by his colleagues and students alike. We had a wonderful talk about his teaching. He left with a smile. I will miss him. Prayers and blessings to his colleague, family and friends, and especially to his son.

As a Lewis Univeristy graduate, Dr. Lange made my psychology course one of my favorites. There truly are no words for you Dave, Sandy and Carrie, that could even come close to being comforting! None of us can imagine your pain. But know that I love Matt as if he were my own son and he truly is a Brother and Friend to everyone who came in contact with him. He worked hard and was always there when I needed him! He loved you both so much and was such a proud Uncle! Then came Alex and a better Father there won't be! Alex will always be proud of you Daddy, as you gave him more love than some can in a full life time. RIP now and enjoy the PACK with wings my friend! xo
