Paul Baker, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 11, 2017. Paul was born on January 16, 1924 in the coal mining town of Tower City, Pa. He graduated from Tower City High School and went on to attend Kutztown State College. He served honorably in the United States Army in both World War II and the Korean War and was a 72 year continuous member of American Legion Post 468. After the war he moved to Wilmington, DE, where he worked for the DuPont Company at the Experimental Station location. He retired from DuPont in 1985 after 32 years of service. After retirement Paul volunteered his time at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilmington where he spent 21 years as their Food Pantry coordinator. After stepping down as the coordinator he continued to assist with the food pantry right up until his death. He and his wife of 60 years, Kathryn, traveled extensively, visiting Europe and many of the states in the United States. They also took many cruises with their favorite cruise being to the Hawaiian Islands. He also was an avid walker. Later in life he and his friends would walk at the Christiana Mall with all their walks ending with a Danish and a cup of coffee at the food court. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn, and all 4 of his siblings, Mae, Ross, Roy, and Jane. He is survived by his 3 sons, Paul, Bob (Nini), and Gary, all of Wilmington. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Bryan Baker (Laura), Keri Henderson (Jason), and Erin Hawthorne (Ryan). He was affectionately known as "Poppoppop" to his 6 great grandchildren, Aubrey, Ella, Briella, Alexa, Jameson, and Kayla. The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice, his nurse Beth, and all the aides, especially Tamika and Chasity, for their compassion and care during Paul's short illness. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service which will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2101 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE. Visitation will be at 1:00 and the service will be at 2:00. The burial will be private at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 2101 Lancaster Ave. Wilmington, DE. 19806, Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd floor, Newark, DE 19711 or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Hi! I am very sorry for your loss. Paul was a very good friend of my parents.
Whenever I ran into him he was always such a gentleman. Always had something nice to say to me. I am sorry I was unable to make the funeral.
Best Wishes,

Al Holliday

Dear Bobby and Nini,
I am so sorry for your loss. We were neighbors for 60 years. He would always walk past my Moms house with a big smile and "hello".
I just remember thinking he was just such a kind and gentle man. My prayers are with you.
