Ruby Alice Johnson

A favorite verse by which she lived, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24), describes Ruby Alice Johnson. All who knew Ruby and anyone who crossed paths with her could clearly see she lived everyday as it was intended: joyously, exuberantly, sincerely, diligently, gracefully and lovingly. Her life can be described as an expression of goodness simply because that's what she expected. Ruby's greatest loves were her family, friends and faith. She blessed family endlessly with her generous heart, thoughtful wisdom, quick wit, guidance and love surpassing all. Her children remember her presence at every important event, prayerful support, Christmas cookies, humorous stories, trumpet playing, and the love of the Cleveland Indians. She taught them to stay strong and never set limits. As a Grandma, she provided hugs, donuts, family vacations, chocolate chip cookies, kisses, fishing lessons, and a beloved nickname, GiGi. She taught to always find the positives, never stop learning and love the simple things. Ruby's friends describe her as vibrant, loyal, inspirational, kind, and a dog lover. They enjoyed her through the years on the tennis court, golf course, at the Bridge table, within her home for meals and out for coffee. Her passion for her church was evident through her dedication to many committees she served, participating on the board, adopting leadership roles, and caring for and teaching children. Ruby was the daughter of Hazel and Fred Laubaugh. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 5, 1934. She graduated from Bowling Green State University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta (serving as president). Her work encompassed a variety of administrative positions. She also volunteered within the community: The Cleveland Zoo, animal shelters and neighborhood associations. Ruby passed on Monday, September 11, 2017, at home in Rocky River, with her family. She is survived by her children, Ted Johnson (Alicia), Houston, TX; Sue O'Dougherty (Tim), Springboro, OH; and Sharon Hardy (Scott), Ponte Vedra, FL; her sisters, Frieda Crowe and Salli Wolfe. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kaitlin & Megan O'Dougherty, Tessah, Emerson & Caden Hardy, Megan Kelley & Heather (Scotty) Zook and great grandchild, Verity Zook. Services private.
