William "Billy" Albert Baker, 70, of James Island, SC entered into eternal rest at home on Thursday, October 5, 2017. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in Epworth United Methodist Church, 1540 Camp Road at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Billy was born in Charleston on June 24, 1947 to the late James Leroy Baker, Sr. and Evelyn Beale Baker. He was fondly referred to as "Billy Baker the Touchdown Maker" by many of his fellow James Island Ram schoolmates. Throughout the years Billy was also given the nickname "The Ball" due to his many athletic interests: Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Softball and Golf. After graduating from James Island High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving in Florida and Okinawa during the Vietnam War as a Military Police Officer. After returning to Charleston, Billy married Marilyn Myers in 1976. He was a member of the Saltwater Sports Club and Tri-County Sports Club which sponsored many local golf and fishing events throughout the years. Billy is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Stacy Renee Baker; son, Daniel William Baker; and grandson, Cory Marshall Butler. Other family members include sister-in-law, Joyce Nave Baker; nieces: Chris Clardy and Keri Baker; brother-in-law, Steve Myers; nephews: Stevie Myers and Chris Myers; and cousins: Al Oswald, Eleanor Oswald, Chubby Baker and Ann Schwacke in the Charleston area with other cousins in North Carolina, Virginia, Maine and Florida. He is preceded in death by his older brother James "Roy" Leroy Baker Jr. Many thanks to the Saltwater Sports Club and Card Club members for their encouragement and support during Billy's illness. He was deeply loved by many close friends and family members. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church where Billy was a charter member: 1540 Camp Road, James Island, SC 29412.

Marilyn, I still look for Billy in the parking lot of Harris Teeter. I would never leave until I had made sure I spoke to him. Such a sweet, sweet man. I hope you are doing well. I think of you often. Lots of Love! Jan

Marilyn, It has been 2 years since your husband passed away and I know at times it seems like yesterday and others it seems longer. Just like our Mom. I hope that you are feeling better and not in as much pain except for the special times that makes you remember certain things. It is great that you are still coming to church and singing in the choir and hopefully with the remodeled sanctuary we will get back on track with our regular services. So wanted to let you know that Annie and I was thinking about you at this time of the year. Stay strong and we are still here for you if you need a shoulder or a whipping post.

Marilyn and family, Annie and I hearts go out to you during this time of sorrow. We understand your feeling and just keep in mind that he is in Gods hands now and not hurting and able to run more touchdowns now. Hopefully Mom will welcome him to heaven and be there for him. May God bring the entire family comfort in days a head. Have so many memories of both Billy and Roy growing up on James Island and playing midget football and baseball for many years. God has taken Billy home to a much better place but you will always have the memories to share, something no one can ever take away from you.

Billy was so much a part of David's life.He always said Roy and Billy were like brothers. They are the reason he loved sports so much. David is unable, at this time to remember his time with Billy, but he always shared with me his stories about him throughout our marriage. David was blessed to have had Billy in his life.
