Joseph Frederick Roberts

Joseph Frederick "Fred" Roberts, 83, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born in Daviess County July 7, 1934 to the late Fred and Clara Mattingly Roberts. Fred was a loving husband, father, granddaddy, and great granddaddy. He retired in 1974 as SMSgt from the United States Air Force, and in 1992 from Swedish Match. He enjoyed gardening, fixing things, and was extremely skilled at woodworking and building furniture for his family. He was a member of SS Joseph & Paul Catholic Church, serving as an usher for many years. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bernadette Roberts; an infant sister; sister, Teresa "Tucky" Thompson; and brother, M.C. Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Joan Bowlds Roberts; his children, Kevin Roberts and his wife Pat, of Powder Springs, GA, Doug Roberts and his wife Theresa, of Bowling Green, KY, Keith Roberts, of Owensboro, KY, and Carol Elder and her husband Steve of Niceville, FL; nine grandchildren, Jill Collins, Ryan Roberts (Emily), Chrystie Frank (Logan), Nolan Roberts (Jessica), Jeff Elder, April Weaver (Kyle), Lauren Roberts, Matthew Elder, and Meghan Roberts; seven great-grandchildren, Hayden Collins, Daxton Elder, Leighton Elder, Gavin Frank, Taryn Collins, Maddex Elder, and Garrett Frank; and sisters, Juaretta Dockemeyer (Charles) and Ann "Sissy" Allen, both of Owensboro. The funeral Mass will be 10 AM Saturday, December 9 at Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Fr. Carl McCarthy will officiate with burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 PM, with prayers at 7 PM, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will also be held at the church, Saturday from 9 AM until 10 AM.
