Mr. Saint Elmore "Elmo" Reed

Saint Elmore "Elmo" Reed passed away peacefully during his sleep on Monday, January 29, 2018 after an extended illness. Saint Elmo Reed was born to the late William Henry Reed and Ruby (nee Green) Reed on June 6, 1929 in Gary, IN. He was the first-born of two children. His younger sister Diane "Billie Dove" Reed preceded him in death. Elmo graduated from Roosevelt High School in Gary, IN and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force at the young age of 18. Elmo completed 4 years of service with an honorable discharge. He later moved to Detroit and eventually settled in Cleveland where he worked for General Motors until his retirement following 42 years with General Motors. Elmo lost his eyesight while working at General Motors as the result of a workplace injury. However, he did not let this disability slow him down. Elmo lived his life to the fullest and was always positive. He could repair cars, as well as anything else around the house. Many people often questioned whether he was blind. He loved sports, books, and Motown music. He was known to be a great conversationalist because he was well-versed in many subjects. But most of all he loved his family. He will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and cousin. He regularly kept the family updated on everyone's activities. Elmo leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 51 years Jayne Reed, daughters: Angela Reed Smith (Kevin) of San Diego, CA, Valerie Reed McKenzie (Alexander) of Redlands, CA, Victoria Reed Short and Jaynie Reed of Cleveland, OH, son; Phillip Reed of Columbus, OH; two stepchildren; Theresa Ferman and Melvin Ferman (predeceased) of Cleveland, OH; one nephew, Dwight Reed of Chicago, IL who was like a son to him, seven grandchildren, and a host of other loving relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Service for Saint Elmore Reed will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Olmsted Community Church, 7853 Main Street, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138.
