Retha Rorie, 81, Independence, Missouri, stepped into the arms of her Lord on February 18, 2018 surrounded by family.
Retha was born on May 24, 1936, in Yellville, AR, where she graduated from Yellville-Summit HS in 1955. She married Junior Rorie in September, 1955, and moved to KC to start their lives together.
They raised their kids in church. First attending New Salem Baptist and later Gashland Baptist, faith was an essential part of their family's life. The friendships they made lasted their entire lives and impact their children's lives still. They later joined Maywood Baptist and Noland Road Baptist where more friends were made and from where dear people cared for dad during his battle with cancer and hers with Alzheimer's.
Retha worked as an executive secretary her entire adult life, primarily with Massey Ferguson and later, Deloitte & Touché. Mom ran the house on a tight schedule because of that workload. Church twice on Sunday, Monday bowling, Wednesday choir practice, Thursday grocery shopping, and laundry on Friday and Saturday morning followed up by the all-important hair appointment. In between she cooked the best fried okra on the planet, canned the harvest from dad's garden and baked countless cookie sheet cakes and casseroles for church dinners.
Grandma Retha or "mamaw" cherished her grandkids. Their school pictures covered every inch of her refrigerator. Mom created priceless memories for each of us and we will hold them dear forever.
Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Junior and her mother, Bernice Fisk.
She is survived by her sister Patsy Rogers of Harrison, AR and aunt Bertha Rorie of Flippin, AR. She is also survived by her children Greg Rorie (Debra), of Evansville, IN, Becky Giles (Chris) of Independence and Brian Rorie (Christine) of Leawood, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
