Shirley Melton Reaves, 79, resident of the Tiplersville Community and a beautiful lady with an even more beautiful spirit, departed this life to her heavenly home to be in the presence of her Lord Wednesday March 7, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, TN.
A Graveside Service honoring the Christian life of Mrs. Reaves will be at 3 PM Friday March 9 at the New Salem Cemetery near Walnut with her pastor, Bro. Don Wilson officiating. A favorite vocal selection will be provided by Bro. Terry Wilburn. A visitation for family and friends will be at the cemetery 30 minutes before services. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
A native of Tippah County, Mrs. Reaves was born September 14, 1938 in Walnut, the daughter of the late Douglas and Zethel Richardson Melton. She moved at an early age with her family to Memphis where she attended public schools, graduating from the Messick High School.
Mrs. Reaves was a devoted employee of the Kellogg Corporation in Memphis where she was employed as a lab technician for over 35 years before retiring in 1994. Her loving husband of 46 years, Paul Ray Reaves preceded her in death in 2004 and soon after his death Mrs. Reaves returned to Tippah County to live for the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Reaves, a member of the Oakland Baptist Church at Walnut will be remembered as a Christian who loved the Lord and found much pleasure in helping people. The legacy she leaves for her loved ones is the steadfast faith in her Lord in all circumstances, her humble gratitude and the example of how to live life as a Christian wife, mother and friend.
Mrs. Reaves is survived by her devoted son, Douglas Ray Reaves of Tiplersville and a host of family and friends. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Norman Melton and two sisters, Carolyn Proctor and Loyce Jones.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Oakland Baptist Church, 1871 Cr 101, Walnut, MS 38683.
