WILBERT L SHANNON Sr

WILBERT L. SHANNON SR of Wheatland, PA died March 11, 2018 at the age of 83. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Ohio and Pennsylvania and was formerly licensed in New York and West Virginia. He was the owner and operator of the Wilbert L Shannon Funeral Home Ltd and in 2001he served as interim manager of the Myron N. Howard Funeral Home in Youngstown, OH. He was appointed in 1968 to the Pennsylvania State Board of Funeral Directors and was elected board chairman in 1972, making him the first African American and Mercer County resident to be a member of the Pennsylvania Board. A graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Embalmers Association, and the Mercer County Funeral Directors Association, where he served as past president, secretary, and treasurer. He was recognized by the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service to the profession in 2007.
