Pearl Duff Obituary

Pearl Duff

Mansfield - Pearl Duff had no goals for longevity. She worked hard, served the Lord with gladness, loved her family, integrated herself in her community, loved kindness and walked humbly with God - and the longevity just happened. But now, there comes a season for rest:

Pearl passed into the Lord's care Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in Oak Grove Manor. She was 102.

Born Pearl Lucille Hickson December 9, 1915 in Marengo to Ray and Anna Mae (Cantlebury) Hickson, she was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School. In the 1950s Pearl worked as a medical assistant and in the 1960s as a medical bookkeeper. Much harder, though, was the work she did on her family farm. Since 1949 she has maintained a 100-acre farm north of Mansfield and busied herself with vegetable gardening and canning. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and always had a mystery or suspense novel nearby.

The oldest member of Mansfield First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, she formerly taught Sunday school. Pearl loved her Franklin Township community - especially her neighborhood Canasta club.

She is survived by sons Jerry (Joyce) Duff of Mansfield and Tom (Pat) Duff of Bonita Springs, FL; daughter Peggy Bricker of Jeromesville; grandchildren Beth Anne (Robert) Shea, Amy (Steve) Kopcial, Brad (Kerry) Duff, Keith (Kate) Duff, Anjanette (Nate) Henriksen, Don (Janis) Bricker and Scott Bricker; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles M. Duff in 1996; her father Ray Hickson, her mother Anna Mae Smith, her step father Jacob Smith; brothers Carl and Gerald Hickson; and son-in-law Harold "Scrap" Bricker.

The Duff family will receive guests Friday, April 13, 2018 from 10am-11am in the parlor at Mansfield First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 399 S. Trimble Road, Mansfield, where funeral services will begin at 11am in the chapel. Pastor Denny Finnegan and Pearl's grandson Pastor Keith Duff will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

The Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral services. Contributions in her memory to Oak Grove Manor may be made through the funeral home.
