John William Allen, Jr., 74, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Elizabeth Pitts Allen, passed from complications of both Parkinson's Disease and cancer on Friday, April 13, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, 126 Coming Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the churchyard. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Bill was born December 19, 1943 in North Charleston, son of the late John William Allen and Louise Pettigrew Allen. He was a 1963 graduate of Porter Military Academy and later graduated from University of North Carolina - Pembroke. Bill was a fifth grade science teacher for Charleston and Berkeley County Schools for 30 years. He loved the lowcountry outdoors, both hunting and fishing, and the time spent with his cherished friends. Bill was an active member of the Charleston Audubon Society and the Charleston Rifle Club. In retirement Bill was active in the Porter Military Alumni Association, spending many hours creating and cataloguing material for the Association at Porter Gaud School. He is survived by his loving wife, Libba Allen, and a son, John W. Allen, III, both of Charleston. Memorials may be made to Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, 126 Coming Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.

My deepest prayers to you, Mrs. Allen (Libba) and John. It was and is my honor and pleasure to worship with you both and Mr. Allen (John Sr.) for many years.

Your family has for many years and continues to bless the Cathedral family. You have devoted friends from my grandparents to today.
