Michael Colbert passed away at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto, FL, on April 12, 2018. Michael was born on November 18, 1933, in Racine, WI, to the late Cornelius and Lucy D. (Malloy) Colbert. On May 24, 1958 he married Lyn (Marilyn nee Michelotte) who preceded him in death on January 30, 2012. Michael is survived by a great son and daughter-in-law: Thomas and Jayette Colbert of Plano, TX; as well as a matchless brother, Patrick Colbert and his wife Ann; two dear sisters-in-law: Jean Linstroth and her husband Michael and Mary Cronin, all of Racine, WI; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Michael attended Marquette University High School and Marquette University. He also attended The University of Wisconsin and Gateway Technical College for continuing education in Real Estate and the Collection fields.
He was employed by Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company until 1968 as the director of marketing and placement strategies for coin telephones in the Southeastern section of Wisconsin.
He left Bell Telephone to become the General Manager of Finance System of Racine, a Collection Agency whose largest client was Wisconsin Bell. In 1988 he joined the A.M. Community Credit Union of Kenosha, WI, becoming and officer to assist in opening a new office in Racine, securing indirect financing contracts with area auto dealers and obtaining payroll deduction agreements with area industries and businesses. Michael and his beloved wife Lyn both retired in May 1996 and relocated to Beverly Hills, FL, at that time.
Michael served as a volunteer on boards for: Hickory Ridge and Aldebaran Homeowners Associations, Racine Realtors Association, American Collectors Association, Wisconsin Collectors Association (Review Board), Family Service of Racine/Kenosha (Division of Family Service of America), Consumer Credit Counseling Service (Advisory Board), National Credit Union Association, Wisconsin Credit Union Association (State Council), Laurel Ridge Association, Beverly Hills Recreation Association, Beverly Hills Community Council, Beverly Hills Civic Association, Association of Beverly Hills Municipal Services Benefit Unit, Our Lady of Grace Pastoral Council, Our Lady of Grace Finance Committee, Beverly Hills Surveillance Unit, West Citrus American Irish Club, Ancient Order of Hiberians, St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee Inc., Beverly Hills Christmas Parade Committee and Keep Citrus County Beautiful, Inc.
It is requested that any memorial remembrances be directed to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL, 34464. Cremation care is under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.

Mike was a dear man, exceptionally active in the community/civic life of Beverly Hills, and contributed greatly to the quality of life in Citrus County. He will be missed by all who knew him. We share in the his family's loss.

Mike was such a nice gentleman who truly cared about his community and got involved in many ways. I had many good talks and interviews with him over the years. He was a real blessing to the community. God speed Mike.

I knew Mike through my years in various capacities as an editor at the Chronicle and was always impressed with his desire to serve his community. His contributions are substantial and he left his communities better places. That's a powerful legacy. Thanks for a life well lived Mike.
