Michael Polizzi Obituary

Michael A. Polizzi of Archbald passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 19, at Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, in the presence of his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Luann Polizzi, the former Luann Lunger, and four children who were his pride and joy.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Michael S., former District Justice, and Louise Marciano. He was a graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and the University of Scranton, where he received his master's degree in education. Prior to retirement, he was a school teacher in the Dunmore School District for 35 years and will be remembered by many of his students as one of their favorites. He was also owner of Polizzi-Kelly Insurance Agency and Michael A. Polizzi Tax Services, where he was an accountant for the past 50 years. His customers were lifelong clients who knew they were in the hands of an honest and trustworthy friend.

Mike was an avid golfer prior to his illness, a pastime he truly enjoyed. He had been a longtime member of Shawnee Golf Club and also Eagles Landing Golf Club, Ocean City, Md. He and his wife have a place on the beach in Ocean City and they considered it to be the perfect getaway. Each summer, they would spend time with the dogs, friends and family in Ocean City. We could always count on endless stories about trips to the casino and Bull-on-the-Beach, among others. His favorite pastime was watching the New York Giants and the New York Yankees, especially when he could attend the games with his sons. He was a former baseball coach in the Dunmore School District and in various leagues in the Mid Valley area. Through his coaching, he had inspired many athletes to believe in themselves and strive to be the best. He also organized and ran the Dunmore Ski Club for over 20 years. Mike excelled at every role in his lifetime: husband, father, grandfather, brother, educator, coach, mentor and friend. His dogs, both past and present, brought tremendous joy into his life. He was fun-loving with a wonderful sense of humor. He always had the perfect joke for every occasion. Mike's philosophy for a happy life was, "Spend time with your family and friends, take a walk on the beach, get a boxer as a pet and root for the Yankees!"

A special thank you to Dr. Haitham Abughnia and Dr. John Prior for all their love and support throughout Mike's illness, the staff at Regional Hospital, Scranton, and the entire neurological team and ICU staff of 4 Widner Pennsylvania Hospital.

Also surviving are sons, Michael and wife, Chrissi; Matthew and companion, Kayla; daughters, Michele Rinaldi and husband, Mike; Suzy Moraski and husband, Steve, all of Dunmore; grandchildren, Christopher Rinaldi and wife, Cassie; Corey Rinaldi, Marisa Moraski and Tia Polizzi; great-granddaughter, Skyler Rinaldi; a sister, Nancy Witiak and husband, Nick, Lake Winola; brother-in-law, James Lunger and wife, Melinda, La Plume; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment is private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Michael A. Polizzi Fund to be distributed among Mike's favorite charities. C/O First National Community Bank, 102 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, PA 18512
