Kathleen Froebel Obituary

Froebel, Kathleen (Bourne)
Kathleen Bourne Froebel died in a car accident on Friday, April 13 2018. Born in Houston, Kathleen was 69 years old, the oldest of 11 children of Margaret and Harry Bourne, owners of Bourne Plumbing Supply.
She was alone in the car and suffered a severe hypoglycemic episode which caused her to lose
consciousness and impact the rear of a slow-moving semi-trailer.
Kathleen graduated from Jesse Jones High School in 1966 and after graduating from St. Thomas
University in Houston in 1970, earned a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center in Chicago in 1976. She completed a Post-Doctoral program at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City where she met her husband, Steve Froebel. They were married in 1977 in Houston.
Kathleen took her role as the eldest very seriously. She was caretaker of all of her brothers and sisters from babies to the present day. The spoiling and nurturing continued with nieces and nephews and then their children. After 2 years as a co-director of Laboratories at Herman Hospital in Houston, Steve and Kathleen returned to Connecticut in 1980 where Kathleen was co-owner of Laboratory Medicine Inc, a clinical laboratory in Derby, Connecticut.
Kathleen and Steve raised their son Jesse in Connecticut where they enjoyed tennis, skiing and sailing together. She was very involved with her church and Jesse's schools. They retired to Houston in 2010 and built a house where they have entertained their large extended family at many holiday gatherings.
Kathleen is survived by her husband Steve and son, Jesse Froebel and brothers Michael Bourne (Kathy) and Patrick Bourne (Kim), and sisters Aileen Clay (Pat), Marilyn Peterson, Theresa Moore (Alan), Cecilia Beier (James), Veronica Bourne, Loretta McAllister (Roy), Julia Sage (Danny) and Lucy Vivian (Larry), and 55 nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Not sure what to say?

Kathleen was my roommate in graduate school at U of Illinois and the maid of honor in my wedding in 1975 in Boston. We lost track of each other and I was so sad that that occurred. I have thought of her through the years and tried to find her on Facebook etc. but was not able to. I lost my husband Chuck in 2019. Steve and Jesse, if you still get these posts, know that I am so sorry to see that she passed away. She was a wonderful person and I loved her like a sister. I am so sorry for your loss. I know she is in heaven looking down on you and her brothers and sisters who she cared for so much. Jean Joseph

Dear Family,
Its been two years since Kathleen's death and Im sure it feels like yesterday.

The pain never goes away but it lessens as time passes

God willing it will get to the point where you can think of her and smile

Kathleen was always smiling and I think of her that way.

Dearest Steve and all of Kathleen's family,
I knew Kathleen as a gentile soul who appreciated the beauty in this world. She was a lovely person for who I am so sad had to leave so soon. I know she is well taken care of in the hands of our Creator.

Rest In Peace, Kathleen.

Kathleen,

I want to thank you for all the things that you and Steve did for Saint Brendan's School. Thank you for the times that you arranged for Marc and Jesse to play together.

I will always remember your generosity and strong faith in God. You were a good person and a great mother. I remember how you used to say "Ya all.."it was cute and the only indication to me that you were from another place.

I know that you were loved by Jesse and you will be missed by all.

I offer my deepest condolences and prayers for Kathleen, Steve, Jesse and all my Bourne cousins and their families as we all mourn Kathleen. I remember so well Kathleen and the other big girls who were always so kind and attentive to the little cousins at those large family gatherings at Grandma Molloy's home on Rivercrest Drive in Houston back in the 60's and 70's. Thus it was no surprise to me that Kathleen and Steve graciously and warmly welcomed me into their lovely and grand home two years ago this spring when I was traveling in Texas, despite not having seen me for decades.

God Bless Kathleen and assuage all those she leaves behind, as her soul is faithfully departed to God in heaven.

God's Peace,
Chris Molloy

Family is in our deepest prayers. This family did so much for my grandmother and her family. Now they can be together in heaven. I remember as a kid going with my grandmother and playing with all the kids this is our extended family and we are deeply sorrowed. - David Miles

Dear Froebel Cousins - Steve, Joanne and Sarah - I've been thinking of you all so much these past days. And of Jesse and Kathleen's family too. What a huge huge loss you are all having to bear. I'm so glad to know you are together this week. I take comfort thinking of your recent Australia trip and how special it was that you all had that together.

May you find the hidden sweet moments as you wend your way through this intense journey of grief. Blessings and much love, LANE

Dear Bourne Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My son has been invited to play and swim with Ryan many times at the "big house" and Kathleen was a kind and gracious lady who shared her home freely.I know that she was a devout Catholic, who inspired everyone around her with her faith.
