Melba Jean Bentley passed away on April 17, 2018 at home in San Jacinto, CA, following a lengthy struggle with kidney disease. Born on December 13, 1930 in Frederick, OK, to parents Charles Alvah and Irean (Marshall) Banes, Jean graduated from Hollister (OK) High School in 1949. She began dating Baffrey Leon “Pete” Bentley while he was in Army basic training at Fort Sill, OK, and the two were married June 13, 1951, at the Hollister Methodist Church. Following his Army discharge in 1953, the two moved to Ontario, CA, where they lived for more than 40 years. Jean and Baffrey retired to Avondale, AZ, in 1995, then moved to San Jacinto in 2001. Jean is preceded in death by Baffrey, who passed in June 2015, her parents, half-brothers Emmitt Otto, Everett Loys and William Henry “Bill” Britton, and half-sister Clara Odell Britton. She is survived by son Baffrey Lynn Bentley and his wife Brenda of Milbridge, ME; daughter Donna Gale Bentley of Cherry Valley, CA; son Charles Riley Bentley of San Jacinto; five grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Jean will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery Tuesday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m.
