Anthony (Tony) R. Fernandes, 94, dear husband, dad, grandpa, uncle , brother, and friend, resident of San Jose CA passed away Monday, May 7. Tony was a general contractor in the San Jose area for most of his work life. Early in his career he was a tuna fisherman, dairy farmer, and proudly served in the Navy during WWII. Tony will be particularly missed by friends and family as he was a great storyteller, avid fisherman and gardener, and frequent participant in Portuguese fiestas in the Bay Area. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Florence, and three children. Larry (Teri) Gilroy, CA, Linda, San Jose CA, and Michael (Lorraine) of Bigfork, MT. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. Grandchildren include Carina Fernandes, Cameron Fernandes, Adam Wells, Jennifer Wells Zevallos, Janelle Fernandes, and Cole Fernandes. Great grandchildren include Anthony Zevallos, Emily Zevallos, and Wyatt Wells. Anthony was one of seven children born to John M and Marie (Breves) Fernandes. Siblings include Edna (Harrison) Moore, Arlene (Bud) Corbin, Patricia Dyk, Robert (Bobby) Fernandes, Manuel Fernandes, John Fernandes. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice or CityTeam Ministries, 2304 Zanker Road, San Jose CA 95131. Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 18 starting at 945 at Five Wounds Catholic Church on 1375 East Santa Clara Street, San Jose CA. Oak Hill Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Tony was such a great man And with the greatest forearms !! He, My Uncle Johnny & My Dad built our Family home in 1957, And he became my Godfather in 1960. He & his family were a bit part of ours ever since, From trips to Yosemite & other family functions.He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
Rest in Peace Tony.
