KINSTON - Frances "Franny" Yvonne Cadena DuBose 84, of Kinston passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston, NC. She was a wife of nearly 61 years to George Edwin DuBose Jr., who preceded her in death; a housewife and mother of two, and a grandmother of seven grandchildren. She will always be loved. She wanted to be involved with her children's lives so she became the school principal's secretary at Northwest Elementary (1964-1969) in Kinston, NC. She later took a job at a bank and worked her way up to become a loan officer. Frances was a very caring mother and friend to all she knew and a lady of many talents. She did flower arrangements, most of her own sewing; from her own clothes, to her children's clothes, to drapes, blankets, pillows, and chair coverings. She loved to cook, baking from scratch, refurnished furniture, and collect antiques. She was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church. She owned a business off of Herritage Street in downtown Kinston and a nursery called Briary Gardens off of Briery Run Road and Highway 58 North. She loved her flowers, especially peonies, and animals which were mainly strays and from the pound. They include the living Popsicle and Bozo with the previous ones being Pudding, Willie, Suzie, Missy, and Buddy. She loved sunny days and working in her yard. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her older brother, David Cadena; and a brother-in-law, Jack Muyres. She is survived by her son, George Edwin DuBose III; grandson, Patrick DuBose, both of the home; six grandchildren; younger brother, Gary Cadena and wife Martha; older sister, Betty Cadena Muyres; and sister-in-law, Kathy Cadena. A memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Westminster United Methodist Church, 1001 Westminster Lane Kinston, NC 28501 or Lenoir County SPCA, 2455 Rouse Road Ext. Kinston, NC 28504.
