Maria Ida Martinez
San Antonio, TX
Maria Ida Mendieta Martinez was born on November 8, 1945 in Alice, Texas and went peacefully to be with the Lord and join her parents, husband, and son on May 14, 2018 at the age of 72.
Our loving mother was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Erasmo Mendieta Sr., her father in law, Miguel G. Martinez, Sr., her beloved son Julian Martinez, Jr., and her devoted husband of 42 years, Julian Martinez, Sr.
Ida is survived by her sisters, Hilda Rodriguez, Mauricia Dixon (Slimane), her brothers, Erasmo Mendieta, Jr. (Mary Lou) and Orlando Mendieta (Isabel). Ida has three daughters: Herlinda Martinez-Longoria (Efrain), Chriselda Martinez Johnson (Kirk), and Nora Lynn Martinez. Her faithful companion Shaggy, and her pride and joy, her granddaughters, Maristella and Julianna Longoria along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored; mother in law Elida Martinez, and brothers in law, Mike Martinez (Elva), and Narciso Martinez (Irma). Many loving extended family members, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Ida, a graduate of W.B. Ray High School and Del Mar College, devoted almost 40 years to the NICU at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas as an LVN where she cared for and nurtured numerous infants and their families. She was known as the IV Queen, she trained nurses and doctors in the critical care area of practice, was a CPR instructor and was loved and respected by many. After retiring from nursing she concentrated on her second love, baseball. She and dad were season ticket holders for the Corpus Christi Hooks and never missed an Astros games. It brought joy to her heart to watch her 'Stros take the Championship for the first time in history.
Most recently she found comfort in the outdoors and spending hours watching her hummingbirds on the front porch. She was happy to be home but knew there was a greater calling to be with her husband and son.
After years of taking care of others, it was time for someone to take care of her. Heartfelt thanks go to the nurses and doctors over the years who have treated and cared for our mother Ida. From the Davita Dialysis centers to the specialty care hospitals and rehab centers. Mom was certainly a fighter and the strongest Angel on Earth, God just decided it was time and is in need of her help.
