Paul Taylor Obituary

Paul and Jane Taylor
September 14, 2017
Paul and Jane Taylor went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017.
Paul Robert Taylor was born on June 11, 1941 in Culloden, West Virginia to Okley and Ella Taylor and Mary Jane Taylor was born on September 12, 1940 in Earle, Arkansas to Raymond and Lillie Boyd. They were united in marriage in Goodman, Missouri on July 27, 1963.
Paul attended Coffeyville Junior College from 1960-1962. He then received his Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and a minor in Biological Science from the University of Kansas in 1965. Paul continued his education at the University of Colorado from 1965-1966 where he received his Master's in Physical Education and a minor in Guidance Counseling. He then completed his education at the University of Indiana in 1971 where he received his Doctorate in Physical Education with a minor in Exercise of Physiology. Paul utilized his education as he was a professor, athletic director and a coach in track, wrestling, golf and cross country at Northwest Nazarene University, retiring in 2002.
Jane worked as a telephone operator from 1959-1969. She then attended Northwest Nazarene University from 1978 - 1981 where she received her Associate of Arts in Secretarial Studies. Jane worked as a secretary from 1981 until her retirement in 2001 at Northwest Nazarene University.
Paul and Jane were all about service and love to anyone that they came in contact with. This was evident to family and friends. They were an example of forever love, commitment and trust in each other. They traveled to most of the United States throughout their life, but trips to annual Taylor family reunion and trips to see their daughter and family were a priority. Their happy faces around their grandchildren or even talking about them showed how much pride and joy they felt in being grandparents. Paul enjoyed fishing, golfing, mentoring and coaching. His time as professor and coach are testament of his quiet servitude to his vocation and to his commitment to his faith in God. Jane's hobbies were about threading "servanthood, loyalty and steadfastness" (her words) into the fabric of marriage, family, friends and their mutual careers. Their favorite outing was driving around Lake Lowell with ice cream to enjoy the sunsets. Family was Jane's favorite pastime. Jane kept photo albums updated on each family member. She spent a couple of years researching and detailing the family tree for Taylor and Boyd sides. Jane's church family and spiritual support she offered and received through the weekly Grace Group grounded her through some of the most joyous and most difficult times. They shared a beautiful life, valued each moment, and kept their eyes forever on their strong faith in God. Their legacy is something to aspire to and to hold on to.
Paul and Jane are survived by their children; William Taylor of Nampa and Tammy (Steve) Mayer of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Abigail, Victoria and Matthew of Anchorage, Alaska and Veronika, Xavier and Cruz Taylor of Idaho. Paul is survived by siblings; Don Taylor of Nampa, Frances Taylor of Davenport, IA, Pat Miesner of Coffeyville, KS and Alma Lee of Arkoma, OK and many nieces and nephews. Jane is survived by siblings; Charles Boyd of Webb City, MO and Jack Boyd of Joplin, MO and many nieces and nephews.
Paul is preceded in death by five siblings; Merril Taylor, Jim Taylor, Earl Taylor, Betty Werschky and Nancy Maddox. Jane is preceded in death by two siblings; Billy Boyd and Bertha Boyd.

Miss our talks on the phone, Jane. One funny thing of years ago now was when you were mistskenly put on the new no fly list. Saw all the paperwork you had had to go through when i took you to the airport after your visit to Disneyland. We all have family secrets i guess is that is one of ours. Miss you cuz.
