Sondra Carole Olin

Sondra Carole Peters Olin was born on April 27, 1938, to Augustus (Gus) and Mildred Peters in Chicago, Illinois. Her earliest years were spent in Chicago, but while she was in elementary school, the family relocated to Evansville, Indiana when her father's employment changed. She graduated from Evansville's Bosse High School in 1956. Her family had returned to Chicago before her senior year, so she was an Illinois resident, and enrolled at the University of Illinois, where she studied Speech Pathology. Two weeks after graduation, on July 2, 1961, she and Fred H. Olin were married. During her years as a speech pathologist, she worked for the Easter Seal centers in Delaware County, Pennsylvania (during her husband's Army service) and here in San Antonio. She mostly treated children with cerebral palsy and other speech and language disorders. Sondra and Fred had two daughters, Jennifer Elaine, born in 1963, and Catherine Elizabeth, born in 1973. Besides Philadelphia and San Antonio, they lived in Little Rock, AR during Fred's orthopaedic surgery residency. Sondra was a naturalized Texan who never looked back to the northern years. She loved the warmth of San Antonio's climate, people and food. Her other loves, besides her family, were baking, gardens, and dogs. She would tell you she had three sons: two Miniature Schnauzers and one West Highland White Terrier; Rowdy, Nummy and Scamp. Her friends were her family and she would go to the mat for the people she cared about. Sondra and Fred were a unit for 56 years, 10 months and 29 days. She is missed. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North. SERVICE THURSDAY, JUNE 7, 2018 1:00 P.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park North. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the San Antonio Public Library or the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, Inc.
