Robert Hubbell Obituary

Robert Hubbell

Lansing - Robert Edward Hubbell was born June 4, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan and went to his Lord, June 29, 2018.

Bob was prominent in the Greater Lansing Real Estate industry, developing numerous subdivisions, and marketing many neighborhoods in the Tri-County communities. Bob began his real estate career in 1968 as Hubbell Realty, a one-man business, with a $500.00 loan from a mentor. In the last 53 years Hubbell Realty joined the franchises of Century 21, Prudential and presently Coldwell Banker. His companies were consistently recognized as a National Top 50 Real Estate Office for sales volume and homes sold.

Real Estate was his passion. He valued hard work, leadership, teamwork and lasting friendships. His ideas, his dignity and his integrity will resonate within Coldwell Banker Hubbell BriarWood and the Greater Lansing communities he developed for many years to come.

During his life time, Bob generously gave back to the community. He served as President of the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors, was a founding member of the Waverly Education Foundation, and gifted to St. Vincent, Wharton Center, Sparrow, McLaren Greater Lansing, as well as sponsorship of many community events.

His personal greatest accomplishment was boating the "Great American Loop" from Lake Michigan down the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Cumberland, Tennessee, Tombigbee and Black Warrior rivers to Mobile Bay, across the Gulf of Mexico, through the Caloosahatchee up the Atlantic ICW through the Hudson River, Erie Canal, Lake Ontario, Trent-Severn waterway, Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, Straits of Mackinac and back to his homeport on Lake Michigan. He said the experience was breath-taking, frightening, humbling, magnificent and everlasting.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Christine (Hunt) Hubbell, and brother Roger Hubbell. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife, Theresa; children Shelly (Art) Gonzales, Kris VanDeventer, Jon Hubbell (DeeDee Whitehead); grandchildren Kristen (Sean) Carpenter, Kathryn Kennicott (Zach Vanderhulst), Kameron Kennicott, Alex VanDeventer (Kayla Dennis), Lauren (Damian) Spielmaker, Michael Hubbell and Erin Hubbell; great grandchildren Kylee, Camree, Jaxon and Kinley; cousin Nancy Pearson; sister-in-law Sandy Hubbell; niece Shaune (Steve) Zander; nephew Steve Hubbell.

Visitation will be July 19, 2018, 4-8 p.m. at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 20, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at St. Gerard Church, Lansing, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be later in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

For those desiring, contributions may be made in memory of Bob Hubbell to McLaren Greater Lansing Capital Campaign and McLaren Hospice. Friends may send a condolence to the family at www.palmerbush.com.

Dear Teresa,

First let us convey how sorry we are for the loss of your wonderful husband and friend Bob. Lynne and I love to recall the special trip we shared with you and Bob driving from San Francisco to San Diego and the night stay along the way at the Tickle Pink Hotel and laughed ourselves silly as almost everything was indeed PINK and laughed we did every time we were together either sharing a meal, or last summer enjoying a fabulous weekend with you and Bob in Saugatuck. So glad we met up in Florida for lunch this past March. I hope your Memory of him will be some comfort to you. Please accept our sympathy.

Dear Theresa,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family - many special memories of Bob's accomplishments in his life that include the respect of his associates, his employees, and the City of Lansing - plus all your own special times and memories we pray help you at this time. One that stands out for us is the day your sister Pat sent our son to meet with Bob, who was a great mentor and long-term friend and associate. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May our Lord help and bless you and your family at this time. - Joyce and Homer Sprague, Happy Valley, Oregon

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Bob was loved by so many of us who had an opportunity to share his life. Sharon and I will always cherish the memories and good times we have shared with the Hubbell family. May God bless each of you with His comfort during this time of grief and shower you with the love from friends, family, and members of the Realtor community.

Dear Theresa:
What a life force Bob was to his community, and the the Waverly Education Foundation in particular!
From its inception, Bob was "all in" for its mission, the students and education; as a strong board member, he was always present, generous, gracious, and ready to pass credit on to others.
It was a privilege to have known and served with him.
His influence and inspiration will live on.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bob , you will be missed by the many like me who you believed in. You gave me a chance to change my life, and reach a potential I didn't know I had. You enhanced the values in me of hard work , honesty and perseverance I am beholden to you for that as I am sure are many others. I cherish the years I worked under your guidance. Few people in this world are given the chance to be such a positive influence on others such as yourself. Thank you for believing in me 48 years ago, you changed my life

What a privilege it was to work with a man of such character and positive spirit. He was also fortunate to have his loving wife always by his side to lend support and guidance. Quite a dynamic duo! And, when my dear husband John Ely passed away they both couldnt have been more helpful and generous. Thanks to both of you for being so special. Bob will be missed terribly and you both will always have a place in my heart. Deepest sympathy......

Treasured Brother In Law, and Uncle. I had to separate Will and Bob in Church, when Will bought a new suit with two pairs of pants... You are greatly missed and dearly loved. Thanks for being an incredible husband for my dear sister, and just an all around good guy.

Bob was a truly fine individual. He was an honest buisinessman and really appreciated those who worked for him. I always remember him relating how he could not have such a successful business without those who work for him. Not too many bosses are that humble, but Bob was. This world has lost a fine man. My thoughts go out to Theresa and Kris and the rest of the family. May God be with you.
