Sister Mary Joan Rice, Religious of the Assumption, died July 1, 2018, at St. Mary’s Manor, Lansdale, PA. She was in the 87th year of her life and the 59th year of her religious consecration. A graduate of Little Flower High School, Chestnut Hill College and Villanova University, Sister spent her life in education in Philadelphia and in the Archdiocese of Miami. Her last apostolic engagement was as academic advisor at Chestnut Hill College. Devoted sister of the late Robert Rice and loving aunt of, Kathleen M. Rice, Thomas G. Rice (Emily), Robert C. Rice (Kim), William E. Rice (Nadia), Joseph P. Rice (Lori), Daniel J. Rice (Eileen), and Kristine M. Rice as well as many more great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, July 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 East Main Street, Lansdale, PA and Friday, July 6 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA followed by a celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. Contributions to Sr. Mary Joan’s memory can be made to the Religious of the Assumption. Dear Assumption Sisters, I was very sorry to hear about the loss of Sr. Mary Joan. I have so many memories of her welcoming my mother and me to the community at Bowman. May she rest in peace; peace to all of you.
