Lisa Wilkins Obituary

Published by Eastgate Funeral Home - Garland on Nov. 21, 2014.
Lisa Ann Wilkins was the only child born to Collins "Bud" Wilkins & Marilynn Wilkins, September 3, 1953. She grew up in Houston Texas, later attending Texas Tech University, where she graduated with a B.A. in Social Welfare, minoring in Child Development & Psychology. She interned at Burnett Bayland Children's Home where she discovered her desire to help children in need. Deciding to continue her social work for the State of Texas, she became a Foster Parent through Harris County Child Protective Services in 1987 at the age of 34. Opening her heart and her home to children in need of a safe place, she Mothered on average 6 girls at any given time, ages 2-13. In addition to being a busy Mom, she lead a full-time career as a Delta Airlines Reservations Sales Agent for 26 years, retiring in 2005. She stayed close with her Delta Family who miss her dearly. She is survived by 5 adopted daughters: Hannah Rodgers, Amber Wilkins, Tina Wilkins, Jennifer Wilkins, her youngest daughter Angelina Wilkins (11 years old) and also by her grandchildren, Jett Rodgers, Emma & Bella Wilkins and Andrew Kyle. Lisa lived a full life of laughter and happiness, she will be greatly loved and missed by all of her family and friends. Unconditional Love: "You and you have it" Mom You have cared for and loved so many friends, family and children throughout your life. God gave you the strength and patience to help mend those lives needing a loving heart. You shared many laughters, great memories and gave so much hope to all those around you. Life was beautiful with you in it! Angel: "You and you have it" Mom By the grace of God, you found me and my four sisters, took us in as your own. You opened your arms, held us tight and smiled looking at us saying, "WELCOME HOME". You gave us a life we thought would or could never exist. For this, you are my Angel. Love: "You and you have it" Mom Love is a bond that is indestructible. Once it's there it's ever lasting. It never goes away. Whether you are here or in the presence of the lord that string of love will never break. You loved many... Parents, children, friends and family. You will be missed by so many. It's hard to swallow this absence. But I close my eyes and know you are here with us all. You touched so many lives, I know you will remain never forgotten. My heart trembles and feels so broken, but I know it's you putting the pieces together leading me down this path you created for me. Though I may not be perfect, I have always looked up to who you are, eager for your approval. I promise to continue to make you proud and give Angelina and my daughters the best life they can have. With Love always, Amber Wilkins and Family

I called her Annie but she was a good friend that I worked with in Houston and Dallas for Delta.

I knew Lisa while attending TexasTech and dated for a while. She continued her education in taking in so many children in need of love that she freely gave. She was unique in that way. I continued my education in medical school but kept up with her sporadically at Delta. If the world was full of Lisas what a wonderful utopia it would be. I was searching for her and just learned of her passing today. With a heavy heart my sympathies go out to all of her children and friends. RIP my friend you have earned your reward at the right hand of God. God bless you all.

So sad to hear of Lisas passing. We were friends back in the 60s and 70s through a mutual friend, Cindy Richardson. Her devotion to her girls was truly amazing. RIP Lisa

I worked with Ann at Delta. She was the most amazing giving person. She always talked about her kids and how proud she was of them. God has taken another Angel way too soon to watch over all her children. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you..May God give you some comfort knowing how wonderful your mother was..

Lisa was such an amazing woman and a fun & loving cousin. I loved the times I would spend in Houston with her and her "girls". I remember when you girls were little and her dream was to be able to adopt you so she could love you forever...and trust me, she did and always will love you forever. I wish you all peace as you travel on this new journey without her by your side, but she is forever in your hearts.

Love your cousin - Sandra

Ann was a quite spirit who did and accomplished big things. What she did with children would be hard to duplicate. Her caring and loving heart for children was a gift from God. We feel that she's gone too soon, however God is STILL in control and will supply all the love needed by her children.

I was a friend of Ann while she was in Houston. She was always smiling and you could tell she loved the children when she came to the office to show the ones she was keeping at the time. May God bless you and the Kids she adopted.
We will continue to pray for your well being.

Thank you my friend......for being a friend when I so needed one. Thank you for all the times we got together over "Rotel and Chips" solving the worlds' problems over the 43 years of our friendship. You will never ever be forgotten.....you have taken a piece of my heart with you. God called another one of his special Angels' home.

Too few of us answer our calling, but Lisa did; and she did it admirably. Not only did she greatly love her adopted daughters, and care about many in the child welfare system who were entrusted to her temporary care; but, she was also completely committed to doing 'her job', even when it was difficult - and with children, it often is. She cared enough to create and enforce needed structure and boundaries with both her foster and adoptive kids, even when it would have been easier not to. This, to me, is true love for a child; because, it prepares them for the world. And, no matter how many challenges Lisa was going through at any given time, if she had any inkling that someone else had a need, the first words out of her mouth to them were always, "What can I do to help?". And, if YOU didn't have any suggestions for how she could help, SHE would come up with some! I'm not sure I've ever had a friend and coworker who was so devoted to being of service to others. She was a Christian; and I can't imagine that devoting her life to others wasn't exactly what God had called her to do. She will be missed! Hugs and love to all her lovely daughters. <

Annie was my first Delta Buddy when I started working for Delta and when we moved to Dallas we were a bunch of misplaced people but always stayed close to each other. Her first priority was her kids. Her face always lit up when she talked about them. She was a true friend.

This being Thanksgiving Day, I'm filled with gratitude for my dear
friend, Lisa. Together, we have shared over four decades of fun, heartaches, births, parties, deaths, weddings, church, school and just plain LIFE.
There will never be another like her!
My comfort is found in the assurance
that Lisa is now in the Lord's presence and loving care.
From the heart, Kathy
