Joseph Muldoon Obituary

DALLAS — Joseph William Muldoon, 84, formerly of Dallas and Pittsburgh, went home to the Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2018. Born in Pittsburgh, Joe was the son of the late Agnes and Joseph Muldoon, of Brentwood.

Dad was educated in the Pittsburgh schools, graduating from St. Wendelin's High School in Carrick. He played basketball and baseball and was known to friends as Jitney Joe. He then proudly attended Xavier University, where he graduated with a degree in economics and later attended the University of Cincinnati Law School.

Dad was a Reserve Commissioned Officer of the United States Army, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Dad worked in sales for companies such as Burroughs, Uniroyal, Keds and Jordache. A firm believer in helping others, he gave freely of his time, including many years as a coach and officer of both the Back Mountain Baseball League and Wilkes-Barre Area Teeners Organization. He was President of the New Goss Manor Homeowners Association and was very much involved with the Wilkes-Barre YMCA, where his sons wrestled for many years.

One of his fondest memories that he often liked to recall was the time his Back Mountain Phillies Little League team went to play before a crowd at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. The announcer went through the lineup and introduced all five sons to the crowd. He was a big Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. As a teenager, he roamed Forbes Field and got to know many of the players and coaches. In his later years, he enjoyed listening to and watching the Pirates and Steelers on radio or TV.

Dad will be missed. He had a unique stubborn Irish wit and his favorite phrases were "Think before you speak," "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all," and "Enjoy the day, it comes but once." With five sons, he said those words many times.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his daughter, Maureen, in 1988.

Surviving are his former wife, Marian; and their five sons, Michael, of Pittsburgh, Shawn and wife Karen, Brian and wife Laurie, Patrick and wife Anita, and Timothy and wife Cathy, all of Dallas; and grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Kevin, Erin, Nicholas, Cassidy, Rylee and Jacy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Ave., Dallas. The Reverend Daniel A. Toomey will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from noon until time of service Tuesday at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., Shavertown.
