GALESBURG - Jack Monroe Lee, 89, Galesburg, died at 8:35 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, in his home surrounded by loved ones.
Jack was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Buda, to Calvin Jackson "C.J." and Myrtle (Ward) Lee. He married Rosemarie Baker on Sept. 3, 1949, in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Jack is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosemarie Lee of Galesburg; three children, Robert (Sharon) Lee, Jacquelyn (Jimmy) Stewart and Jan (Bill) Greer; seven grandchildren, Angela Gonzales, Amanda (Andy) Giles, Marie (Stuart) Schaafsma, Lindsey Benoit, Joshua (Debra) Greer, Joel (Rebecca) Greer and Daniel (Carina) Greer; 16 great-grandchildren, Jackson Gonzales, Drew, Alonzo and Annabelle Giles, Cora Schaafsma, Kylie and Peyton Benoit, Brennen, Caleb and Emily Greer, Mason, Levi and Silas Greer and Eleanor, Abigail and Clara Greer; 10 stepgrandchildren; his sisters, Shirley (Glen) Braden and Marcia (Paul) Duke; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Eddie Ward Lee.
Jack worked for Lucky Boy Bakery, Arwell-Okin Exterminators and Bullock Garages. He started his own business of Lee Builders, where he worked with his son, Robert, until his retirement. He served as 3rd Ward alderman for 10 years for the city of Galesburg. Jack was raised in Kewanee and graduated from Wethersfield High School.
Jack was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He served on the church board, led the teen choir and helped with the youth ministry for over 25 years. Jack was very instrumental in the actual building of the church. He volunteered his time with over 35 mission trips to 18 different countries on four different continents as a part of the Nazarene Work and Witness Team. A very special trip included traveling to Trinidad and Tobago where he took his entire family to build a water reservoir for the Caribbean Nazarene College.
Funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at First Church of the Nazarene, 1501 Webster St. Rev. Harold Berrian will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to be made to the Nazarene Church Mission Society. delivered a lot of concrete to Jack and his crew, he will be missed by many. Sounds like he enjoyed helping out the not so fortunate with all the missionary work!
