Doris McClure Shaffer, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the DuBois Nursing Home in DuBois, PA.
Doris was born on May 1, 1938 to the late John and Ruth (Foust) McClure in Emporium, PA. She graduated from Cameron County High School in Emporium and went on to graduate from Penn State University. She received her master's degree from Villanova University. Doris taught the third grade at the Wasson Elementary School for many years at the DuBois School District before she retired.
Doris is survived by her beloved husband; Dennis M. Shaffer; one daughter; Diana K. Shaffer of Reynoldsville, PA; one son; Michael R. Shaffer of Reynoldsville, PA; one daughter-in-law; Debra Dinsmore; one sister; Rita C. (Fernando) Turegano of Kingwood, TX; one nephew; Marco Turegano and his family; and one niece; Nikki (Turegano) Hutchinson and her family. They will all miss Doris greatly. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters; Barbara and Mary.
Family and friends will be received for a visitation on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 11am – 1pm at the Snyder – d'Argy Funeral Home, 206 E Main St, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 1:00pm and officiated by Father Bill Barron, also at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at McClure Cemetery in Curwensville, PA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Doris's name to the Salvation army and the Make a Wish Foundation. Online condolences and other information may be found at www.snyderdargy.com.

When Doris and I were teaching in the Dolestown, PA area we used to go to the shore and meet Bob and Jean Golden and their kids. They had a boat and we both learned to scuba dive off of their boat. it was lots of fun

Doris was a classmate from Emporium PA H.S.Class of 1956 We shared apartments for three years in Bucks County, PA when we both taught in elementary schools in the area. 1960-1963. I enjoyed the time when we lived together. Doris was my maid of honor when Dick and I were married on 7/4/1964.
