ABINGDON - Sandra Lynn Galt, 67, Abingdon, formerly of West Burlington, Iowa, passed away peacefully at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Ida (Kulp) Koett. She married Roger Galt on May 12, 1978, in Memphis, Missouri.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Roger; one son, Matthew (and Shanda) Galt of Stonington; her beloved Aunt Audrey Tapke of West Burlington, Iowa; and two brothers, David Koett of Burlington, Iowa and Ian Koett of the state of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from West Burlington High School and later graduated from the Nursing Program at Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Iowa. She trained as a nurse and completed college with a bachelor of arts in biology in Indianapolis, Indiana. She worked as a nurse for 45 years at the Burlington Medical Center and OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. She retired from St. Mary's in 2015. She had lived in Abingdon since 2007. She was a member of Abingdon Christian Church, where she enjoyed being a member of the singing choir and the bell choir. She was also active in the Choral Dynamics singers in Galesburg. Her hobbies included gardening, raising house plants, crocheting and sewing. Her greatest joy was helping people in the community.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
