Leonard H. Adam (87) of West Hartford passed away peacefully on August 17, 2018, with his wife of nearly 60 years Anne (Pensiero) and family by his side. Len was born in Jackson Heights, NY and grew up in Staffordville, CT. He enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War and served in a communications reconnaissance unit in Germany. He returned to the Hartford area and attended the University of Hartford. Len was a craftsman who could design and build just about anything imaginable out of wood, from cabinetry to intricate and beautiful pieces of art. Len was a fixer, ready with a solution for anything broken you might bring him. His ability to create was founded in his inquisitive nature and general curiosity about how things worked, a passion fulfilled through decades of reading and tinkering. A thinker, he marveled at how far technology had come and pondered where it could take us. Never a big talker, always a good listener, he will be missed by his wife; sons Leonard and wife Diane (Knight); Joseph and wife Heidi (Gunas); Daniel and partner Gary Russell; grandchildren Michael and wife Amy; Suzanne; Christopher; Anthony and Matthew; his Brother Jim and partner Sandy; sister Carol and husband Bruce. Len is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Christine. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of St. Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford on Tuesday, August 21st at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford on Monday, August 20th from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to: The American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305, or The Michael J Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown MD 21741.

He was a light in this world. His legacy will live on through all the lives he had touched, especially his children and grandchildren. I am grateful to have known him since the 70s, and very glad that I was able to visit him in his last year, getting to hear stories from his childhood and more. His spirit shined so strongly that it never dawned on me that it would be my last time with him.
I am filled with sadness. Yet also joy for the honor of having my life enriched by his. My condolences to everyone who loved him, his entire family, first and foremost his wife.
