John "JJ" Jay Sims Jr., 16, of Larksville, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, in Children's Hospital of Philadelphia after a long courageous battle with a rare autoimmune disease. He was a strong and brave warrior who fought hard against this awful disease.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of John and Mary Sims, of Larksville and attended West Side Vocational Technical School, studying in the automotive mechanics program. JJ loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and his passion was fishing. He had a strong faith in God, praying for others and always grateful, thanking God for everything despite what he endured. Jay loved his siblings and was first to help others in need. He will be sadly missed by many friends and family.
Jay was strong when he was weak and brave when he was scared. He has gone way too soon and will forever hold a place in our hearts.
JJ was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Stanley Sims.
Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his parents, are his siblings, Brianna Sims; Abigail Sims and Stanley Sims, all of Larksville; maternal grandparents, Helen and Michael Bacumpas and paternal grandmother, Mary Sims; aunts, Donna Roman, Kim Wynne, Holly Sims, Muriel Sims; uncles, Robert Sims, Stanley Sims, Joey Sims and Peter Bacumpas; great-uncle and aunts, Walter and Kathy Sims and Kathy Bacumpas and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday from Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, Maple Avenue, Kingston. Interment will follow in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Larksville.
Friends and family are welcomed to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
