BEULAH-Larry Everet Lung, 79, died August 27, 2018, at Masonic Pathways, in Alma, MI.
Larry came into this world November 10, 1938, at a time when his grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles all worked and lived together far from the family homestead in Benzie County. He was born in a snow covered, 8x20 foot tar-papered, shack situated in a logging camp, near Melstrand, MI (U.P.) The family returned to the family farm in Benzie County in 1943. Larry attended the one room school house on Homestead Road, and graduated from Benzonia High School in 1957. Larry married his high school sweet heart that same year. He was employed at Pet Inc. of Frankfort for 30 years. During this time, Larry received an award for safely driving a million miles, and later earned the same safe driving award for two million miles. When Pet's closed in 1993, he went to work for Smeltzer Orchard Co. of Frankfort, in the processing plant, then switched to driving truck until retiring in 2016. He enjoyed the early morning coffee fellowship with other retirees down at the local McDonalds.
Larry was an active member of the Honor Congregational Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, when his children were small, and as Deacon in later years.
In retirement, Larry became a Detroit Tigers Fan. He and his wife Lola liked traveling and spent many winter months in FL, TX, and AZ. He loved spending time camping with family and friends in Grand Marais, on Lake Superior. He especially enjoyed attending grandchildren's sports and special events. Each summer he would delight all the grandchildren by jumping in the swimming pool with all his clothes on.
One of the favorite family stories told of the time when Larry was ten years old, he had to drive his mother to the hospital to give birth to his baby brother, Duane, because his father wasn't home.
Larry loved people; his brothers and sisters in Christ; his fellow workers and all the friends he met along the way. Most of all he loved the Lord Jesus and his family.
He is survived by his wife Lola; daughters, Kimberly (Joseph) Flees, Michelle (Perry) Tiernan, Deborah Canfield; son, Larry (Tammy) Lung II; stepdaughters, Ann Johnson, Sandra (Edward) Scarbrough, and Joyce (Timothy) Antel; grandchildren, Alexander (Mirriah) Flees, Liam, Aidan; and Brenna Tiernan, Isabella Canfield, Reece and Spencer Canfield; Victoria Lung, Jodi (Brendan) Bohnhorst, Joshua Scarbrough, Rachel (Justin) Gauthier, Adam and Sarah Scarbrough, Timothy Antel II, Shelby, Melody and Joseph Antel; great- granddaughters, Olivia Flees and Lilah Gauthier; brothers, Jerry (Jacqueline) Lung, Richard (Carolyn) Lung and Duane (Kathy) Lung; sisters, Chery (John) Acre and Jean (Marc) Szuch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary; and daughter, Trina and sister, Clair.
