Joy, Michael Francis
Michael Francis Joy, 74, of Clinton, passed away peacefully in his home on August 29th, 2018. Born on June 7th, 1944 he was the son of the late Edward M. and Gertrude L. Joy of Waterbury, CT. Michael graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and went on to serve in The United States Air Force. Mike married his love, Yvonne Geremia, in 1967 and they shared 29 years as husband and wife before her death in 1996.
Mike had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed his position as Postmaster in Hadlyme for many years before retiring as The Supervisor of Postal Operations in Madison. After his retirement Mike was happy to have more time to enjoy the many things he loved doing. Hunting, fishing, boating, lobstering, riding his Harley and driving his '66 and '68 Corvettes were among his favorite ways to spend his time. Mike's family was incredibly proud of him when he received his Captain's License from the U.S. Coastguard in 2000. Mike was a sweet man and a loyal friend. He enjoyed coffee and laughter every morning with his friends at Cristy's in Westbrook. He was known for wearing shorts year round and his daughter delighted in teasing him about this.
Mike's grandchildren, Shane and Evangeline, were his everything. He cherished his time with them and spent many weekends driving to Massachusetts to be with them. He attended many of Shane's soccer, baseball and basketball games and went to several of Evangeline's swimming and karate classes. Mike gave Shane his first fishing pole and was thrilled to share his love of the outdoors and the ocean with his grandkids.
Mike was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mark's Church in Westbrook.
Mike is predeceased by his wife, Yvonne, his parents Edward and Gertrude Joy, and his youngest brother Gerard Joy. Michael is survived by his beloved daughter Marci (Mark Romano), of Brookline, MA, his loving grandchildren, Shane and Evangeline Romano, cherished brothers, Edward (Wanda) Joy of North Franklin, CT and Francis (Laura) Joy of Austin, TX, sister-in-law, Lisa Joy of Southbury, CT, 7 nieces and nephews, their spouses and children and many extended family members.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Saint Mark Church, 222 McVeagh Rd., Westbrook (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH).
