Sheila (Hammer) Cohen, 88 years of age, of Sandy Springs, GA, formerly of W. Hartford,CT passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Morris Cohen. Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Frances (Cantor) Hammer. Sheila graduated from the Cornell School of Nursing in 1953 and spent most of her career in the Broward County School System, teaching until the age of 83. Sheila is survived by her sons, Joseph Cohen of Atlanta, GA, Louis Cohen and wife Pimchan, of Thousand Oaks,CA and David Cohen of New Rochelle, NY; her daughter, Natalie Raven and husband Michael, of Atlanta, GA; her beloved grandchildren, Sara Raven, Rachel Raven, Charli Cohen, Josh Cohen, Benjamin Cohen, Amanda Cohen, Matthew Cohen, Aaron Cohen and Lea Cohen and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, September 7, 2018 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Interment will follow in the Knesseth Israel Cemetery, 123 Maple Street, Ellington,CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Broward Education Foundation or Doctors Without Borders.
