Sybil Blakely Maxwell
Jackson - Sybil Blakely Maxwell passed away on September 18, 2018. Visitation will be Friday, September 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. On Saturday, September 22, an additional visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Parkway Cemetery in Ridgeland.
Sybil was born November 23, 1932 in Hattiesburg. She was the daughter of John and Leota Blakely. She had been a resident of a Jackson since 1972. She was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Luther Meadows and Gleaners Sunday School classes. Sybil was also active in the Ridgeland Recreation Center where she liked to exercise and play games.
Sybil loved working outside and her neighbors all knew the yard at 5928 Concord Drive would be immaculate. She liked the beauty of nature and felt a great sense of purpose in planting, weeding and tending to her yard much like she tended to her friends and family. Those who knew her would say that she was like glue holding friendships together over the span of decades. Sybil enjoyed entertaining in her home, cooking fantastic meals and having warm fellowship with friends. God gifted Sybil with hospitality and service, and all those who were touched by this gift left with full stomachs and joyful souls.
Sybil is survived by her sons, Mark Maxwell (Wendy) of Madison, Jerry Maxwell (Debbie) of Acworth, GA and her daughter Sharon Maxwell Harrison (Chris) of Germantown, TN. Sybil has 6 grandchildren: Lindsey Langhans (Stephen), Luke Maxwell (Dresden), Logan Maxwell, Blakely Harrison, Sarah Vance Harrison and Chandler Harrison. She is also survived by two great grandchildren: Charlotte and Carsten Langhans. She is also survived by her brother, Bunk Blakely, a long-time resident of Hattiesburg. Sybil was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Maxwell in 1993.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
