Richard Harpo Edward Arponen died October 11, 2018. He was born on May 21,1935 and was the son of Eleanor (Kenny) and Aaron Arponen Loving husband of Barbara Punkin (Guidaboni), brother of June and her husband Albert Williams of Florida, Father of Richard Arponen of Carver, Carl and his wife Janice Arponen of Plymouth, and the late Michael (Babe) Arponen of Carver. Fun-loving Grandpa of Amanda and her husband Dan Cloutier of Carver, Elizabeth and her husband Ryan Fazzino of Harwich, and Marissa Arponen of Plymouth. Beloved Great Grandfather to Carlie Cloutier of Carver, along with several nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Carver, Richard spent his entire life in Carver married to his high school sweetheart Barbara for over sixty years. He was a member of the Hilltop AA in Kingston, the Antique Truck Club of New England, and the Massachusetts Archaeological Society. He worked for Robys in Carver before joining Operating Engineer local Union 4 where he spent many years paving southeastern roads before his retirement. His favorite times were spent with his wife and children. He loved riding in his pick-up with his dogs. Richard passed on the love of archeology and fishing to his sons. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren where he loved being the biggest kid of them all. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home 116 Main St. Carver, MA. Thursday, October 18 from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11. Interment in Union Cemetery, Carver. Donations in Richards memory to charity of ones choice.
