John Wolf Obituary

Published by Penzien-Steele Funeral Home - In Bay City on Oct. 16, 2018.
John William Wolf Jr. of Saginaw MI, died surrounded by his family on October 16, 2018 at the age of 78. John was born on June 6, 1940 to Jane and John Wolf both natives of Saginaw. He was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School, Notre Dame University, and the University of Detroit Law School, Magna Cum Laude. John fell in love with and married Marilyn A. Wazny in 1962. In June they celebrated their 56th anniversary at their family cottage in Walloon Lake, MI, where John loved piloting his pontoon boat for sunset cruises over the last 40 years. For the last 25 years the couple has spent their winters at Clearwater Beach, FL, with friends and family. John frequently expressed how blessed he was by spending time in "the two most beautiful places on earth". John loved to play golf and gin rummy. John was an extremely hard worker and was driven by the desire to be the best that he could be. One of his favorite sayings was "the harder you work, the luckier you get". John was not only an excellent attorney but alsoa true life counselor and friend to each and every one of his clients, staff, and business associates. John was respected for his intellect and his unique talent to make very complicated situation simple. Everyone will remember his compassion and willingness to help others; if you needed help - John Wolf was always there. John is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn and by his three loving sons and families: William (Debra, John, & Cara); James (Karen., Jackson & Meaghan): and Andrew (Jennifer & Julia). John became the family patriarch after his father passed at the young age of 54 and is survived by four sisters and brother: Carolyn, Nancy, Patsy, Sarah, and Mike, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to being a loving husband, father, great friend and business partner he also thrived as a true leader as: (1) past President of the Saginaw Country Club, (2) Member of the Saginaw County Bar since 1964; (3) followed in his father's footsteps as an assistant city attorney, (4) established with his best friend, Tom Joseph, a very successful law firm and since 1998 has been a member of the law firm of Braun Kendrick, Finkbeiner, P.L.C. serving his clients for well over 50 years, (5) Board of Director on numerous non-profit and profit organizations, including his most proud work with The Field Neurosciences Institute, (6) recipient of the Badin Guild of the University of Notre Dame, and (7) a member of five generations of attorneys. John's quick wit and attention to detail served him well. John will be remembered for his devotion to his family, faith, clients, and friends and his passion for leaving this world a better place than he found it. His faith was his foundation and his word was his bond. He made many deals with just a handshake. John had a special gift that earned him the trust and respect of all he worked with, befriended, and loved him for the person he was. John was a family man and loved spending time with and was proud of his three boys and the successes they have each achieved. He loved to kid around with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews who referred to him as "Daddy-O. This world has lost a great generous man, a true "one of a kind" when it lost John Wolf. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to The Field Neurosciences Institute, St. Dominic Church or a charity of your choice. The Wolf family would like to thank everyone who has made John's life and ours so truly awesome! The family will welcome visitors at 9:30 am Monday October 22, 2018 at St. Dominic Church 2711 Mackinaw St, Saginaw with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at the Saginaw Country Club.

My parents, Marian & Leonard Len feel your loss and are deeply sad at this time. My dad has said many times if it weren't for John, I wouldn't be where I'm at today.

To Marilyn, Jim, Bill and Andrew,
On behalf of us at Got Water Marine you have our heartfelt sympathy at this difficult time. John and Marilyn have a special place in our heart from August 2017 when we came up for the day while we were at the Dealer meeting; Marilyn and John graciously opened their home to us and John took Karen and I out for a few hours on the lake for an awesome tour! We'll never forget the experience and our interaction with him.
It's quite obvious John was a very special person who touched a lot of lives. Again it's with great respect you have our most sincere sympathy.
Your friends, Vaughn and Karen Hoskins

John was a fixture in our family. A trusted friend, neighbor, and advisor. When our dad, Jim Mahar, passed away at 36, John took it upon himself to watch over and help our family, and did so for the rest of his life. What a rare gem, and a good man. The lake, and our lives won't be the same without him. Our deepest sympathies to his beautiful and beloved family. XOXOXOX, Ginny Mahar

I do not remember not knowing John. We all grew up in Golfside and the Wolf family were frequent guests at our cottage at Pt. Lookout. Even though I moved away In 1970, I will always remember John and his kindness. He took over the role of Patriarch when his Dad died suddenly at a young age and family was something that I know meant a lot to him. Although I have lots contact with many of the family, mu husband Landy and I send our sincere condolences to all. May he Rest In Peace and he will be remembered by many.

I am sorry Landy and I cannot be there for his services but will be so in spirit.

John was a human dynamo. Successful attorney, friend, businessman, patriarch and much more. I knew him best as my law partner---clearly one of the best, and as a wonderful brother to my good friend, Mike.

My condolences to the entire Wolf family.
