PRESTON - Leona Florence Sterling of Preston, MD, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD, and went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was 81.
Leona was born on Feb. 20, 1937 in Easton, MD, to the late Thomas L. Mullikin and Nellie Mae Trehearn Mullikin. She attended Easton High School; graduating class of 1955. On June 25, 1966, she married Willard H. Sterling and they resided in Queenstown. Mrs. Sterling began working at IBM, but in 1968 she began what would be a long-time career in retail sales. She worked at Silk and Sanderson Dress Shop in Easton, Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton, and in 1993, began Leona's Mini Mall in Crisfield, MD. In 1998, Leona and her husband made their home in Easton where she continued in sales and working around town.
Mrs. Sterling is a member of the Easton Church of God, past president of Ladies-A-Glow, served on the board of directors at Choices Pregnancy Center and taught a craft class for senior citizens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and sisters: Lillian Russ and Beulah Towers.
Leona is survived by her children: J.D. Buchanan and his wife Penny; Glenn Sterling and his wife Theresa; Brenda Sterling; step daughter, Shirley; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Thomas Mullikin, Clara Mount, and Mary Friend.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 16th, 11 a.m. at the Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
