Joe was a class act and a good man. I've known him for decades working in Boston broadcasting. Joe's hearty laugh, big smile and genuine kindness will be forever remembered. Joe, you are missed...

Joe was such a great guy. We worked together at a couple of radio jobs over the last 20 years. News of his death greatly saddens so many of us. Farewell Joe. Rest In Peace, my friend.

I loved Joe. He's been a constant and supportive colleague and friend when I visit Boston. Over the years we've called each other to commiserate about the film and TV business. I always came away from the call feeling better and less alone. My heart goes out to his family and want to let them know Joe was universally loved and respected by so many people.

Shocked to have, by mere chance, run across notice of his death, I met this fellow once, briefly, a few years ago at a tourism-related job fair in Atlanta. Though an occasional long-distance nighttime listener to WBZ, I'd never heard his on-air work and otherwise had no idea who he was aside from being a fellow attendee at the above-mentioned event.
Age 55 is far too young for someone to pass away, and I can only echo and affirm the comments of others attesting to his genial, good nature and wish the best for his family and loved ones.

I only knew Joe for a relatively short time, but his good nature, his help, and laugh will be with me the rest of my life. I'm sure the Heaven stretch will be a smoother ride because Joe is showing the way. Thanks, Joe.

When I was in the neighborhood, I inevitably would run into Joe and we'd share a couple laughs and talk a little. At first I did not know Joe was an actor and radio personality. He was just a good guy to talk to. He showed me a picture of himself as an actor in the old Spenser TV series. Then I started noticing him over the past couple decades in movies with Sean Penn, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson, Casey Affleck and many others. Always brought a smile to my face. He loved the movie scene. I would sometimes see Joe struggling with an old snow blower he had. We'd have a laugh over that. He wasn't big on the snow shoveling!
My sincere condolences to Terry, Olivia and Katy and Joe's extended family. Joe was a great guy. He is in my prayers. I'll miss his smile and his stories.

So many wonderful memories working with Joe at Metro Traffic back in the 90s. One of the funniest guys to be around day in and day out. It was a thrill seeing him on the big screen, and he was always fantastic at it. Thoughts and prayers for his family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about Joe this week. We worked together at Metro Traffic back in the 90's. I will never forget his sense of humor. He was one of those people that you looked forward to seeing when you came into work. Just such a nice guy. My best to Sue, who I remember fondly from our days at Trans National, and to Joe's entire family. Please know how much Joe was loved and respected. It's a great loss.

I am so sorry to hear about Joe's passing. I can't believe it. We worked together at the top of the Pru in Boston in the early 90's at Metro Traffic. He was always helpful, funny and professional. I was so happy to see him getting great parts in great Boston movies later, too! I felt proud. I can't imagine what his wife and family are going through right now. My heart goes out to you.

Deepest condolences to the Stapleton family. You and the broadcast and acting communities have lost a mainstay who represented so well what it is to be a Bostonian. Love this guy. So many warm and fond memories of Joe. There are very few people you encounter in this world that when you reflect back, it's all positive. THAT was Joe. Always easygoing, never taking anything too seriously, including himself. His attitude and way was a fine example for all. So very sorry for your devastating loss of such a bright spirit.

My heart is broken. Joe was a dear friend. We grew up together at Metro Traffic from the early 80's. We worked well, together, and always shared some real hearty laughs. I always looked forward to seeing him every morning when I arrived at work. He was always upbeat and jolly after working an 8 hour overnight shift. I admired his passion for his acting and beamed when I'd see him on the big screen in the movies. The sting of losing Joe defies description..especially at such an early age. I'll always be grateful to have had him in my life and will cherish his memory which will remain in my heart for ever. My sincere condolences go out to his entire family.
Rest in peace, old friend.

Joey inherited all of his parents's goodness, as did his brother Ronald Jr and his sister Susan, also my first cousins. Like his father, my uncle, Ron Sr., Joey's first thought was always for other people rather than himself. This virtue especially showed itself in his love for his family. He was an excellent father and husband and put Katie, Olivia, and Theresa ahead of himself, always. He was humbler than he had any right to be. He did not put on airs or feel entitled to anything. He did not hold grudges or speak disparagingly of anyone, because as an empathetic man, he instinctively understood how another person might feel who was oppressed in this way, and as a result, he had no desire to perpetrate such oppression. He worked hard at what he did, and managed to make people and places better than they would have been if they had not known him or been influenced by him. He had a terrific sense of humor, and was comfortable in his own skin. He was, and will continue to be, beloved. Having experienced similar tragedy and loss in our branch of the family, my thoughts are with his girls and his widow. I know Joey will be watching over them. I am also thinking of his parents, my aunt and uncle, who, like Joey, have been manifestations of my father that have remained alive, and have therefore been a comfort to me. It is a cliché, but nevertheless true, that he made the world a better place, and as a result of his passing, the world is lesser for it. Requiescat in pace, ave et vale. We shall not look upon his like again.

I entered all my information above but have been sitting at the computer for a half hour not knowing what to write. I keep looking at Joe's picture in disbelief that this is a memorial page for him.
Teresa, Olivia, Katie and Sammy too. I can't imagine your pain. He was a special guy - with the worst jokes (that made me laugh every time) I will miss him. Thank you for sharing him with us.
