Dr. Ovide A. Lamontagne of Manchester passed away peacefully at The Arbors of Bedford on Monday afternoon January 7, 2019 surrounded by loving family and caregivers. Dr. Lamontagne was born in Manchester on September 28, 1930, the son of Dr. Ovide R. and Aloysia (Lemelin) Lamontagne. He was a graduate of St. Anthony Elementary School, Assumption Preparatory School, Worcester, MA and Tufts Dental School class of 1954, Boston, MA. He served as a Captain in the US Army stationed in Fort Devens from 1954 to 1956. He began his dental practice with his father beginning on weekends in 1954, then practiced dentistry full time beginning in 1956 until his retirement in 1997 and during this time with his son, Roger, from 1986 to 1997. Dr. Lamontagne was active in civic, community and charitable work. In 1955, he was a founding member of Club Richelieu Manchester and served several terms as president. He was elected to the Manchester School Committee from 1966 to 1969 representing Ward 7. He was past president of the Manchester Dental Society (1966-1967), past chairman of the St. Mary's Bank Board of Directors, served as an incorporator of the Franco-American Center and on the St. Anthony Parish Council, Catholic Regional School Board and in other parish activities. Upon his retirement, he became a volunteer for The CareGivers, Inc. and for his service, he was recognized as the "CareGiver of the Year" in 2004. Dr. Lamontagne enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating and socializing with family and friends at the family camp on the northern shores of Lake Umbagog. He had a sharp mind and wit, liberally told corny jokes and, including his last day on earth, he freely, but playfully, teased grandchildren, the Arbors' staff and anyone who came into his presence. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jeanne (Brisson) Lamontagne; seven children and their spouses, Atty. Ovide and Elizabeth Lamontagne of Manchester, Louise Lamontagne and Thomas Babineau of Manchester, Paul and Debra Lamontagne of Santa Maria, CA, Dr. Roger and Anne Lamontagne of Manchester, Helene and Fr. John Anthony Vidal of Washington, DC, Gisele and William Thompson of Hooksett and Dr. Denis and Cynthia Lamontagne of St. Johnsbury, VT; twenty grandchildren, Madeleine, Brittany, Sarah, Thomas, Amie, Andre, Erin, Keriann, Kathleen, Joseph, Paul, Emily, Jean-Luc, Gisele Louise, Renee, Lindsey, Kendall, Michael, Marc and James; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Josiah, Elizabeth and Clare; his sister, Yolande Caron of Manchester and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Therese Lamontagne, Sr. Guy-Marie Lamontagne, PM; his brother, Robert Lamontagne and his eighth child, Jamie. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, January 11, 2019 in St. Anthony Church. Committal prayers followed at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester. To Ovide and the rest of the family. I have the fondest of memories of Dr O at the Club Jolliet. His humor and welcoming spirit to a young professional was very special to me. Losing a parent at anytime is difficult no matter the circumstances and illness.

Dear Jeanne, Ovide, Louise, and family... I was very sad to read of Ovide's passing. I remember well the time we spent together when I was at the Arbors. Man, could he tell a joke! He was such a great contributor to the Mens' Group that we had there. I was impressed by how loving a family that he and Jeanne had then, and I know that those children and grandchildren will bring comfort to her now and in the days to come. God bless you all.

He was such a big part of our childhood -- we spent as much time at the Lamontagne house as our own, and our dads were both an endless source of merriment and mayhem. Rest in peace, dear Mon Oncle Ovide.
PS -- He told me I had cavities because I looked at boys. Yes, I had cavities, and yes, I looked at boys. So no argument here, Uncle O!

January 9, 2019

This great guy will be missed. I'll always remember his visits to the firm, especially around political events.
Ovide's sense of humor is legendary. He loved showing off his "French" wood stove at Umbagog, with the raised letters "Caution: Hot when lit".
Most of all, he set a great example to his family of charity work and giving back to the community, something we see in all of them today.
Farewell Ovide, we'll remember you fondly,
Jim and Meredith Tamposi

Dear Jeanne, how sad for me to read Ovide's obit. The sensation of lost as for my last brother swept over me. You may remember my Dad Omer, my brother Edward were old Doc and young Doc's hunting partners for many years. You and my wife had babies together at old Norte Dame Hospital. Oviedo and I bragged about the charm of our wives and new children. I shall pray for and your family when I serve the Mass.

My sympathies to the Lamontagne family on the passing of their families patriarch. Dr. Lamontagne left an indelible mark on the Manchester community in different ways. Personal to me is his co-founding the Richelieu Club locally with my dearest uncle,Walter Parenteau. My thoughts are especially with his sons, Ovide and Roger, who I observed to be most caring and loving towards their dad for many years.

I'll always remember his jokes and original phrases; his laugh; the time he pulled out my loose tooth in his kitchen; and how he helped to save my brother's life up at the camp. He never stopped giving, caring and playing! Being able to grow up next door to him, Mrs. Lamontagne and their fabulous children, especially Gisele, was the gift he gave to me.

I never had the chance to meet Dr. Lamontagne, yet know what a good man, father and husband he was through my dear sister-in-law Gisele. He leaves a huge legacy through his very talented and active children, grandchildren, etc. I can see how much better off he left this world. To the Lamontagne clan - God's peace be with you all and keep all the sweet sweet memories close to your hearts.
