Oneida—George E. Thayer, 74, of 442 Main St., passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Oneida Health Hospital where he had been a patient since January 4, 2019.He was born on December 4, 1944, in Oneida, the son of George E. and Anne Rinaldo Thayer. He was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1962.He was employed as a money room clerk at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino for twelve years, retiring in 2013. He was formerly employed at Oneida Healthcare as a computer operator for eighteen years. He had previously worked for Oneida Limited. He was a former Emergency Medical Technician.George was a lifelong resident of Oneida and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida. He was a member of the Oneida American Legion Post 169 and the Oneida Rifle Club.Surviving are his life partner, Linda West, of Oneida; three children, George E. Thayer, IV (Angel Sbarra), of Boonville, Michael J. Thayer (Taylor Cook), of Perryville, and Christine M. (Geoffrey) Becker, of Oneida Castle; four grandchildren, Cameron Thayer, Olivia Becker, AnnaBeth Becker, and Richard Becker; and his former wife, Pauline Gormley.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., where Deacon James M. Chappell will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida.
