Clarkie Miller Grant Mt. Pleasant - Clarkie Miller Grant, age 94, widow of John R. Grant, Jr., died on January 17, 2019. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville. Following the service, a reception will be held at Cherrydale House, Furman University. Online condolences may be offered at www.CharlestonFunerals.com. Clarkie was born in Greenville, SC on July 26, 1924, to Pickens Walton Miller and Lillie Mae Huff Miller. She was a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church for many years, and prior to moving to the Charleston area, was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church, where she participated joyfully in the Women 4 Life Group Sunday School class, of which she served as President. She was retired from the South Carolina National Bank. Clarkie was faithful, resilient, and modeled a life well-lived to her family and friends of all ages. She took great joy in music, golf, cooking, fishing, and time spent at Lake Greenwood. Above all else, she cherished her family. She is survived by a son, J. Michael Grant (Shelia Natale) of Charleston; son-in-law, William Howell Burgin of Anderson; four grandchildren, David W. Burgin of Greenville; Kristan B. Gillespie (Brian) of Simpsonville; J. Carter Grant (Kaky) of Mt. Pleasant; and Elizabeth G. Stone (Nathan) of Mt. Pleasant; along with ten great-grandchildren, Liam, Reid, and Grant Burgin; Jack, Cate, and Duncan Grant; Isabella and Sydney Kate Gillespie; and Cooper and Ella Stone. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria G. Burgin, as well as one sister, Ruth M. Fischer, and eight brothers, Tillman H. Miller, Gordon C. Miller, W.C. Miller, W. Roy Miller, Fred H. Miller, Pickens W. Miller, Albert D. Miller, and Lloyd W. Miller. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Taylors First Baptist Church, 200 W.
