Joseph Anthony Roberts, Sr., 70, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at his home. He was born November 15, 1948 in Daviess County to the late Wallace and Frances Tooley Roberts. Joe was retired after 25 years as a correctional officer with the Branchville (IN) Correctional Facility. Earlier in his life, he had worked for Fields Packing Co., Construction work, and Diamond Lanes Bowling Alley. He was of the Catholic faith, was a member and past board member of the Daviess Co. Fish and Game, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed Nascar racing, U.K. basketball, and boating. Joe was also preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Anthony Roberts, Jr. and William Joseph Roberts, a brother, Mark David Roberts, and a son-in-law, Leonard Reno Priest. Surviving are his wife, Linda Roberts, two daughters, Stephanie Priest of Owensboro and Mary Beth McCubbins and husband Mike of Owensboro, two stepdaughters, Sherrie Hamilton (Julie Lyle) of Owensboro and Lisa Shelnutt of Owensboro, grandchildren, Santos (Danielle) Delgado, Selina Priest (James), Leanna Shelnutt, William Shelnutt IV, Madison Lyle, Houston Blake Roberts, Katie (Cory) McKeel, and Michael W. McCubbins, great grandchildren, Aurora Mae, Benton Joseph, Leila Mae, and Jaxon, two sisters, Celia (Tony) Roach and Julia (Ricky) Houston, all of Owensboro, a brother, Warren (Ellen) Roberts of Missouri, and a sister-in-law, Cathy (Mike) Teasley of Owensboro. The Funeral Service for Joseph Anthony Roberts, Sr. will be Noon Thursday, January 24, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Hospital Transplant Center in Louisville or to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301. In the word Luke says : For he was a good man and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith. And a considerable number was added to the Lord (Acts 11.24)

There is quite a lot to be said about a man who is considered to be a good man. It could be said a man is a good man because of what he knows. It could be said that a man is a good man because of where he is or where he's from or where he goes or where he knows to go. A man is a good man or could be said to be a good man because of how he raised his children, loved his family, loved his wife, loved his community, loved his church, and loved his God.

Having been Blessed to have known Joe for years, I can easily say : Joe was a good man and known by God....Amen
