Robert C. "Bob" DeWire, 77, of Dover, entered into rest surrounded by his family on Sunday January 13, 2019. He was the husband of Ann (Long) DeWire. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage on August 22, 2018. He was born December 28, 1941 in Hughesville, PA Lycoming County. The son of Alice M. (Confer) DeWire of Hughesville and the late Russell A. DeWire. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1965. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1969 and started his career as a Pennsylvania State Police trooper in the York barracks that same year. During his time with the State Police he served as an assistant fire marshal and a criminal investigator. He retired as a police officer in 1992 and then served as a Deputy for the York County Sheriff's Department until his retirement in 2002. Bob was also a member of the American Legion Shiloh Post #791. Bob's hobbies included small engine repair and ultimately brought him to the Lanco Speedway where he built microsprint engines and also worked as a mechanic at the S & S Service Center in Wellsville for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle whenever he could.
Including his wife, Ann, Robert is also survived by two daughters Lori Kelsey Snider and husband, Sam, of Wellsville; Shari DeWire Snell and husband, Andrew, of Red Lion; three grandchildren, Travis R. Riley and wife, Courtney; Jordyn Staub and husband, Taylor; Erynn Buck and companion, Trenton, all of York; four great grandchildren Coen, Luke, Finnegan and Sawyer, three siblings James DeWire and wife, Roberta, of Carlisle; Jonathan DeWire and wife, Elinor, of Connecticut, Mary Jo Feldman and husband, Larry, of Norristown; Sister-in-law's Nancy DeWire of Hughesville and Emily DeWire of Eagles Mere. He was preceded in death by three brothers William, David and Philip and Sister-in-law, Rita. A Memorial service is pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Olivia's House, 830 South George Street, York, PA 17403

Dear Ann & Family:
I worked as a trooper with Bob in 1976-77 when I was stationed at the state police barracks on Roosevelt Ave. Unfortunately. when I left there, our paths did not cross again. I remember him as one who epitomized what a state trooper should be like. He was a great guy and a lot of fun to work with. He also had a lot more hair back then.
