Robert M. Bauer, Sr.

Robert M. Bauer, Sr., 82, of Mahopac, NY died peacefully on March 8, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Robert (Bob) was born February 1, 1937 in Manhattan to the late Victor and Ottilie (Wild) Bauer. On May 7, 1960 he married Loretta (Lorie) Neumayr. Bob graduated from White Plains H.S. in 1954. While attending the NYS College of Forestry at Syracuse University, he helped design the White House Rose Garden in Washington D.C. In 1958, he graduated as a landscape architect and went on to own a very successful landscape construction corporation. Later, Bob worked for the County of Putnam as the Deputy Highway Superintendent. He also worked for the Village of Irvington, NY as the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works where he was given the key to the city upon retirement in 2000. One of Bob's passions was playing golf. He and his wife were members of the Mahopac Golf Club for over 30 years, and they enjoyed the Friday Night League at Pehquenakonck Country Club in North Salem, NY. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lorie, of 58 years; daughter Carolyn Bauer and her husband Chris of Oak Hill, NY; daughter Lisa Ellingham and her husband Craig of Cortlandt Manor, NY; son Robert, Jr. and his wife Susan of Mahopac, NY. He is also survived by his brother Victor Bauer, his wife Sonia and their family of New Jersey. Bob has 6 grandchildren: Brianna, Noelle, Kristen, Eric, Max, and Sophia; and 2 great grandchildren: Julia and Thomas, plus one on the way. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial visitation on Tuesday, March 12th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A prayer service will begin at 8:30 PM during the visitation. Private interment of ashes will take place in the Spring.
