John Essepian Obituary

Essepian, John Phillip LOUDONVILLE Dr. John P. Essepian, 86, joined the love of his life Doris in Heaven on March 16, 2019. He died unexpectedly but peacefully at home less than four months from Doris' passing. Born in Troy on September 6, 1932, the son of Armenian immigrants Hachador and Azniv Hachigian Essepian, John lived the American dream by attending Watervliet High school, graduating in 1951, going on to attain a chemistry degree from Houghton College in 1955 which lead him to McGill University in Montreal earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He received an advanced degree in Periodontia from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Dentistry in 1960. John served as Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps during the Korean War, stationed at Fort Sheridan in Illinois then returned to his hometown of Latham to open his dental practice in 1962. John enjoyed his work as a dentist, loved his patients and was still actively practicing at the time of his death. John was active and took a leading role in many dental associations such as the New York State and Third District Dental Societies as well as fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, fellow of the International College of Dentists, and fellow of the America's College of Dentists. In 2018, John received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pierre Fauchard Academy adding to his many, many awards he had received for the service and excellence in his practice of dentistry. A devout man, John gave of his time and expertise serving as trustee of Houghton College, chairman of the School Board of Loudonville Christian School, and chairman of the Board of Trustees for Loudonville Community Church. He even found time for youth sports as co-founder and coach for Circle Soccer League in Latham. John loved his time at Brant Lake with family and extended family at the "camp" to fish, boat and snowmobile. A lifetime local resident, John with his wife, developed real property throughout the Capital District. Keenly interested in woodworking, gardening and antique cars, these pursuits were his form of relaxation. Predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Doris Anne Tysinger Essepian, John is survived by his daughter Rosemary Azniv Essepian Burgher (John); and sons, Dr. John Phillip Essepian III (Kelley), and Charles Hachador Essepian (Donna). He is also survived by the grandchildren who absolutely adored him, John Henry Burgher III (Ginny), Lindsay Grace Burgher Seddon (Paul), Rosemary Azniv Burgher, Harriet Aspin Burgher, Margaret Isabelle Essepian, Kathryn Anne Essepian, John Phillip Essepian IV, Nicholas Christian Essepian, and Lilianna Grace Essepian. Family and friends are invited and may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Friday from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service on Saturday will be private for the family with burial in Memory Gardens in Colonie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houghton College, 1 Willard Ave., Houghton, NY, 14744. Condolence book at bowenandparkerbros.com.

Memories and Condolences
for John Essepian

Not sure what to say?

What a BLESSING it was to have Dr. Essepian as my Dentist !!!! I have known him for over 20yrs. He was more then just my Dentist, he was a friend, he genuinely cared, he was a "warm smile", and someone that I laughed with. He knew my father, and always asked about my daughter. He loved to hear about her accomplishments, and was truly proud of her. (She was his patient, when she was a young child, and into her 20's.) I was always at ease with him. He knew my sheer terror of any dental work, so he was very gentle, and patient with me. Everyone that worked at the office loved him too !!! To his family, to everyone at his office, to his friends - Dr. Essepian was an angel here on earth. He is now one, in heaven. I am so sorry for your loss, and sadness. You may have grief now, because he is gone. But, you also had the blessing of having someone, as wonderful as him, in your life. He will be missed by so many. I LOVE YOU FOREVER DOC !!! Dawn Hudson

Until this afternoon, when we received your Family's letter, we did not know that Dr. Essepian had pass away. He was our dentist for more than 32 years. His knowledge and expertise and understanding were second to none, and I always looked forward to chatting with him about a wide variety of things during my regular checkups and cleanings. For me, he did much more than take care of my gums and teeth, but served as a powerful positive role model. Our belated condolences on the loss of your dear father and grandfather. He was a great man and a great dentist. We'll always remember the twinkle in his eye, his smile, and his laugh. And we will miss him greatly!

Like so may, I too was shocked to find out that John had passed. You could tell that he loved what he was doing. He was a unique person, one minute he would be fixing a malfunctioning piece of equipment, the next minute you might see him modeling a large womans hat.
Great Dentist. Will miss his smile and humor. God bless you John, may you rest in peace.

I am so sad and shocked hearing of his passing! I've been his patient for about 25 yrs. of more. Dr. Essepian was the ultimate professional. He wasn't just a wonderful dentist, he was a friend to all his patients! He and Mrs. Essepian used to come hear me play piano at the Desmond Hotel while dining there many times, both always so cheerful and encouraging. God bless his wonderful family. Sending my deepest sympathy! I will truly miss him!

Dr Essepian's family- We have been out of town and someone just sent me a text asking if we knew that Dr Essepian had died March 16th. We did not and have been checking with our son to see if he knew it, he did not but checked into it for us and found out that it was true. We are so very sorry and will miss him terribly. He is the only dentist that we have had for 52 years. Our kids and grandson also went to him. Him and my husband had a great relationship of joking with each other about numerous things. We will miss him, we always joked with him about never retiring from being a dentist and he didn't. So very sorry for your loss. Allen & Phyllis Helson and family

I have just learned that Dr. "J" has passed. As so many others have expressed, he was always so committed to his family, practice, and patients. He was the most exceptional professional that I've ever known. He was more than a dentist to all that knew him. A friend indeed. I will miss him more than words can express. There is a new angel in Heaven. God Bless.

Dear John, Charles, and Rosemary, I'm so saddened to hear of the loss of you dad. Honestly I thought he would live forever. What a great man, doctor, husband and father. He was my dentist and orthodontist until I was an adult and moved out of Latham. He pulled my wisdom teeth, gave me a crown (which is still going strong after 30+ years) and always gave me fatherly advice whenever I went there. I remember swimming in your pool when we were neighbors and enjoying Rosemary's Barbie collection. It was an honor to know your dad. He will always be an icon in the dentistry community. Prayers to you all. Barbie

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of my all time favorite doctor in the entire world. I have never felt so comfortable having dental work done as I have my entire adult life with Dr. John. I'm at a loss for words but I do know that his passing is perhaps a blessing in disguise as he is now joined with his wife that he so lovingly talked about all these years. Thank you so much for all you have done for me, you will be so missed. What a great AMERICAN!! God Speed Dr. John

I just learned of Docs passing and am deeply saddened! I was terrified of dentists when I moved here in 1971. Doc was instrumental in saving my teeth. I can't say enough about him. He was compassionate, a great listener, always asked about the family. We always had a good laugh and a big hug. Both my kids and grandkids went to Doc. He will be deeply missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of my favorite "Doc."
He always had a warm smile and a funny crack about me or my many missed appointments. I just saw him a month ago, and was shocked to hear of his passing. I doubt I'll ever find another dentist I enjoy seeing as much as I did him. Rest In Peace Doc.

Dr. Essepian was my buddy! I wasn't a patient, I was one of the few sales reps that he would actually talked to, and he let me know it! Over the years we spent alot of time talking about a lot of things, but the thing we talked the most about was God and family, in that order. He adored him family and especially his bride! I know lots of people are very sad at his passing, but I know someone who couldn't be happier today.. You're finally home Doc. Home with your Lord and holding your dear wife's hand I'm sure.

I am so saddened to hear this news. I've been a patient of Doc's for over 50 years and was just in to see him a few short weeks ago. He was always interested in the family and how everyone was doing. Always a story to share and a big hug to give. I'll miss him so, so much, but he's certainly earned his place in heaven with his beloved wife. My sincerest condolences to the Essepian family. Rest in peace, sweet Doc.

Rosemary, Charles and John: My deepest sympathy on the loss of your remarkable father and my dear friend. Dr. Essepian not only has been my dentist for more than 40 years but was my parents and my children's. He did it all! Braces for my kids, root canals, crowns, implants and fillings. He was extremely professional and always had a warm and friendly smile for his patients. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, "Doc".

He was the only dentist I knew till I was 25... my Mom had the privilege of working for him for some years as well. When I was living in Orlando, him and Doris, were in there for a dental conference he called and took me to a real dinner out. He knew me as a baby, put braces on me, pulled all four of my wisdom teeth in the office, was at my high school graduation party and always told me we would move to Hawaii with your teeth... I'm saddened to hear this and send all of you my prayers.

Have been his patient since the 60's! My mother always credited him for saving my teeth! When I married, my husband started going to him and we brought our children to him as well. He always asked for and enjoyed hearing the updates on the kids. He took good care of us and made it so we never feared going to the dentist. I am saddened and he will be so missed.

He used to make me blush as a little kid by asking me if I was "kissing any girls". He was a dentist who did it all. I moved away but I can't believe he was still working--it confirms he must have love, love, loved it. God Bless Dr. Essepian
