I am the daughter of Theodore "Teddy" Accas who passed away in 2010. My father would always tell stories of his friend Jimmy Pappalardo. I believe the were in grade school together. Maybe PS189?

Jim, you were our favorite customer at the Gingerbread Bake Shop in Sag Harbor. We always enjoyed seeing you in the morning for coffee. You didn't care if it was fresh or stale. You were a good friend.
Until we meet again for coffee, RIP.

Jim was like a father to me; met him when I was in my 20s, working for the City of NY, and have stayed in touch over the years. We sat next to each other for 8+ years and I enjoyed all the stories from the Marines, NY AC, family, his house in the country, his neighbors, etc. Spoke so much about his kids, they were his life, as was his wife. He touched so many people, always with a smile, bought the whole office bagels every payday. A generous, humble man that put a smile on my face everyday. Jim, I will miss you. I know you are in a great place. RIP my friend.

Without a doubt, they truly don't make them like Mr. Pappalardo anymore. He is the first parent of a classmate I recall meeting at college, with his big, warm, hearty, welcoming voice and equally big and hearty hugs. He supported every single aspect of the lives of his daughter and his entire family as it evolved, and this extended to making a sincere effort to get to know and take care of their friends and make them feel like family. I recall him deftly arranging a trip LaGuardia for D and I. Growing up in rural NH that was my first such trip to an airport by 'livery'. He spared nothing to make sure his daughter and her friend arrived safely as possible for that first leg of a semester abroad. That is but one example, but I'm quite certain there are many examples of Mr. Pappalardo doing all he could to keep everyone he loved safe and well, that remained hidden from view. He was not shy about his joy in showing people around his city and neighborhoods of NY and I will never forget walks where he would point out secret parks or where he met someone notable or had a funny experience. And he was giving. I fondly remember the generosity he and Mrs. P showed by allowing a (not small!) crew of college buddies to descend upon their home to celebrate those last carefree days before graduation. As anyone who met him knows, he was a superb conversationalist. One of my more recent memories occurred when I, visiting from Boston, happened to be in NYC for a certain 'comeback' Superbowl in 2017. Though the Giants were not playing (thank goodness!), the living room was full of fans and until the last few minutes of the game, this Patriots supporter heard quite a bit of good-natured ribbing, not the least from Mr. Pbut it was always gentle, like him. He will be deeply missed by me and so very many.

Mr. Pappalardo was a very generous man. I remember playing every sport under the son with his son James. And every day he would walk the neighborhood and check on James and us as a group. If we did not have money or anything to drink, he would go to the store and buy drinks for us. Growing up in the 70's and 80's was a great time in PCV. Even up until the last time I saw him walking down the street, he always has a smile on his face and a destination to get to.
He was a great man and had a lasting impression on me.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Always,
Kevin

Jim Pappalardo was more than my best friend's dad. He was there at every important stage of my life, with a twinkle in his eye, a boisterous laugh, a toothpick between his teeth, and a ready bear hug. He always made me feel like one of the family and had a way of bringing a smile to all those around him. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Mr. P, because he was a cheerful fixture, whether sitting on a bench by the playground, at the barber shop across the street, or at the local pizza place, where he introduced me to Italian ices at an early age. His warmth and kindness, his obvious pride in his kids and grandkids, and his devotion to his wife Susan provide an example to the rest of us of what is truly important. While I will deeply miss seeing him on that park bench when I return home, I am so grateful for the many happy memories I have of the times we shared.

I've been friends with Jim for about 20 years in which time I've come to know him as a very big hearted, caring man, he was always bragging about his children and grandchildren. Seems he had an endless supply of stories many of which were about the Marine corps which he was very proud of serving in. Since I was in the Navy I earned the nickname Swabby. I will definitely miss our Wednesday night phone calls and the times when he used to come out and spend time in his Bay Point house. He was a good man with a good heart and will be missed by many. Jim came into our lives about 20 years ago when my husband Mark McMahon did some tree work for him at his Sag Harbor home. They quickly hit it off and became fast friends. Jim especially liked picking on Mark for his time served in the Navy as nobody was as good as a Marine according to Jim. He loved to call Mark "swabby".
They had such fun banter between them. We welcomed Jim into our hearts like a Grandfather for our daughter Meagan. Meagan adored him and Jim adored her. Never missing a birthday or special event in her life. When Mark went to see Jim in his final days he was mostly unresponsive but when Mark mentioned Meagan, Jim got a smile on his face.
We are going to miss him so very much, Mark is going to miss his Wednesday night phone calls and all the Marine/Navy joking, but we are blessed to have had him in our lives these past 20 years and are given some peace knowing he is back with his beloved Susan.
