DENNIS H. HANSEN OBITUARY Dennis passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 70 on Easter, April 21, 2019. He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Gore, and his father Howard "Buck" Hansen of Hansen Excavating (Gayle Brandt,) Park Falls, his sister Christine M. Brown (Robert Justin Brown) of Pittsburgh, and brother Brad Hansen of Pewaukee. In addition to many friends he will also will be missed by his nieces and nephew, Tricia, Hilary and David Brown and their partners Kerry McCormack, Matt Passarello and Alexandra Brown and baby Emma Brown. We were terribly remiss in not telling of Sharon Stanton. She remained especially close to Dennis, and his entire family throughout most of his adult life. They shared many ups and downs and helped each other immensely thru the tough times. Dennis was a magnetic and charismatic guy who was loved by everyone who knew him. He was equally adept at delivering a good "shot" and a great hug. Dennis ran his own company, Dennis Hansen Excavating and Trucking, for over 40 years from his home. Raised in Brookfield, he graduated from Brookfield East High School in 1967. He was passionate about racing and loved cars and bikes. He worked hard and loved his community of fellow workers. Once known as "Burl", Dennis was a gentle giant with a huge and generous heart. He was also an intellectual at heart. He and his dear friend, Dr. Eddie Forrest, had many deep conversations about politics and regularly solved the world's problems. Dennis even ran for Wisconsin State Senate and got on the ballot! Dennis could tell a story with the best of them, and captured the attention of the room with ease. It was always fun to hear Dennis and his brother Brad telling stories together, delivering playful jabs back and forth. He loved the North Woods and Hansen Family Lake. He especially loved deer hunting season Up North not so much to hunt, but to enjoy the camaraderie. His last visit to Hansen Lake for Thanksgiving was especially memorable as all present enjoyed watching the budding relationship with the youngest member of his family, Emma Brown. All are welcome to attend to a celebration of his life luncheon this Saturday, April 27, 2019 starting at 1:00 pm at Panos Banquet Hall (Bullwinkles upper level), 20290 W Bluemound Road in Brookfield. Your toasts and personal stories will be most welcome! MAY 1, 2019 UPDATE: Dennis would be so happy to know that $700.00 was donated to The Education Partnership to help students succeed in the classroom. A Dennis H. Hansen memorial plaque will be put on display at the Teacher Resource Center. Future donations will help to offset funeral expenses and can be sent to Brad Hansen or Christine Brown. The family would like to thank all who offered sympathy and those who were able to attend Dennis's Celebration of Life this past Saturday. Your support, sentiments, and many cards have been much appreciated.

My deepest Condolences to the Hansen family. I have so many dear memories of Dennis. I remember them so vividly because of his warmth and humor were extra ordinary. I remember Jack and Dennis taking apart Jack's corvette and then putting it back together in the Barn. I remember the stopping in at whatever apartment Dennis was living in at the time and hanging out because Dennis's apartments were always the place to go and hang out. I remember our ride together in Jack's Corvette the night of Jack's funeral. I remember with gratitude our last conversation a few months ago. We spoke on the phone once a year and caught up on each other's lives. I was always impressed on how much he remembered about me and my family from year to year. I am still moved by Dennis's call to me 9/11/2001. Dennis remembered my daughter Caroline had lived in NYC and wanted to make sure she was OK. I will remember Dennis as a extra ordinary presence of friendship and light and humor.

Dear Dennis my longtime friend. After my marriage and move out East my only way of keeping up with how you were doing was through our dear friends Mike and Cheri Wiersema. Actually Mike introduced us and I met Cheri at your house. We did have a few telephone conversations over the 34 years I have been gone and each time it felt like we had just seen each other. It was always easy to be around you and chat about music (you loved to play My Guitar Gently Weeps, until this day one of my all time favorites thanks to you)
our weird health issues, world problems and politics (of which you always knew more than I did) or our friends who had gone off the rails. No matter the subject it was easy, serious and full of laughs all at the same time. Some of my fond memories include the numerous parties (always quite wild and raucous back in the day) watching the moon landing, late night swims in your family pool, tooling around in your sexy fast car and my college graduation party that was only 12 years in the making.. Remember the stupid male dancer my sister hired to embarrass me in front of my mom and friends? PS my mom adored you too. She and I loved your smart, funny, strong, masculine yet always gentle being.

Along with many others I will miss you Dennis and all the fabulous memories of our youth! Rest peacefully big guy.

Love, Cathy Gauger Jackson

Well Dennis, during 50 some years we went from playing Rock & Roll to Hot Cars (maybe girls too) many campfires and Road America weekends to trading info on our newest medications and what new doctors we had. My families love for you and the Hansen family really can't be put into words. Rest in Peace my dear friend and save me a place on the stage up there. Love You Dennis!

I've always admired my fantastic cousin Dennis, who I looked up to so much. A favorite memory: I was a little kid, maybe 10 years old. Our informal subdivision baseball team (in Pewaukee) was playing a traditional summer softball game against the team from another nearby subdivision. A big deal for us kids. We're getting ready to start, and along comes Dennis, riding his bicycle down Capital Drive all the way from Brookfield!! He'd been invited to help out our team by my older brother, Karl. Dennis would have been around 15-16 at that time. We all cheered for him on his arrival, as we really needed a "ringer" to help us out. He had that big friendly smile of his on his face. Dennis gets up to bat, . . . . and he hits a home run! Wow, the cheers!! We won the game, thanks to my big cousin. I was so proud. I think that Dennis probably hit a home run with everyone he knew. He was just that kind of guy. I will miss him terribly. p.s., thank you Dennis, for turning me on to one of my favorite record albums ever - The Progressive Blues Experiment, by Johnny Winter. I think of you every time I listen to it, and I always will.

I was deeply saddened hearing that my very good friend has passed away. Dennis was the first person I got to know in high school after moving from NY.

We sang in choir together and played in a garage band together. He was an accomplished guitar player and had a great voice.

So many memories of the races in Elkhart, watching football together, road trips in his corvette and a lifelong friendship.

I will miss our great conversations and 53 year friendship.

My deepest sympathy for the Hansen family and all those who's life he touched.

So sorry. I was looking for both of you for weeks on facebook. Im so sad for this. Dennis always treated Jean and I like his "baby sisters". He always had a great laugh and would call out of the blue on my Dad's birthday to share stories of him. This is terribly sad! Prayers and hugs to all.

Dennis worked with me for 20 plus years, he loved the loved the jobs in the country driving out to the dump sites where all cows and farming was. Talking memories of times past I learned, a lot from him. I will miss you greatly my friend, I hope god has a telescoop up there to run while having your favorite beverage. Rest in peace my friend, we will meet again some day.

My favorite term for Dennis was Rugged Individualist! This big guy is leaving one big hole in whole lot of people's hearts. Our world has been changed, we are suffering a deep loss. God bless his soul and may he be resting in painless peace!

Dennis was my best friend for 56 years. My heart is broken at his passing. I will miss him terribly, as will many others. He brought joy into the lives of countless numbers of people. He was a truly good man, and I can say that I know of no one else who enjoyed life and had fun like Dennis could. Rest well, my friend. You have earned it.
