Joseph Philip Dzuback III, 67, passed away surrounded by his loving family in his Fanwood home on the evening of May 9, 2019, after a valiant fight against cancer. Joe was born in Jersey City on May 23, 1951 and he graduated from Westfield High School in 1969. Joe attended Villanova University, where he earned a B.A. in History and developed a lifelong passion for Villanova basketball. After earning an A.A.S. from Union County Technical Institute, Joe began his thirty-seven year career teaching computer science at Union County College. He was a dedicated educator, valued colleague, and an active member of the teacher's union. He was still employed there at the time of his passing. As a loyal follower of college basketball for over forty years, Joe began to publish his own statistical analysis and commentary on a personal blog, Villanova by the Numbers. He later was recruited to contribute to college basketball blog, Rush the Court. He deeply enjoyed analyzing the games and blogging after sitting courtside. Joe also loved watching and attending games with his family and cheering for his favorite team together. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula (Marotta), beloved children Jayne and her husband David Moody, Emily, and Joseph IV, and his sisters, Mary Ann Dzuback and her husband Peter Best, Margaret and her husband Michael Bloomfield, Jayne and her husband Julian Bibb, and April Heron, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Juanata Dzuback, and his brother, John. A celebration of his life and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23rd, 2019, at St. Paul's Church, 414 E. Broad Street, Westfield, NJ, 07090. Arrangements by Gray Funeral Home, Westfield. Please go to: www.grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the Union County College Foundation, The Joe Dzuback Memorial Scholarship, 1033 Springfield Ave., Cranford, NJ 07016 (www.uccfoundation.org). I just saw this notice on the WHS 1969 reunion website and I am so sorry to hear about Joe's passing. Although we have been out of touch for many years so many of my high school memories are about wonderful times spent with Joe and his family.

I had Joe for one of my more advanced Comp Sci classes at Union County College, back in the mid-80's, and he was - hands-down - the best professor I ever had. Took a few other classes with him, once I knew he was teaching them. He introduced me to the Mac, back in '84 or '85. He was way ahead of his time.
What a great guy. He spurred my interest to become an I/T person for 30+ years, and a teacher thereof, for almost 10 years.
Thanks, Joe. Rest in peace....

Richard and I mourn with you the absence of Joe's warm smile, sardonic wit and his loving embrace of family, friends and church. Man, will he be missed!
